Camp chief stove

Can't find the thread but interested in what people think of the camp chief two burner stove. I am unhappy with my little Coleman stove you cannot control the flame. The camp chief seems heavy but hoping the two burner is a bit lighter. My friends love the griddle that you can buy with it.

Try searching for Camp Chef (not Camp Chief)... my guess is that is what you're looking for.

Camp Chef makes both high and low pressure stoves so you need to specify the model you are looking at. We have a two burner Camp Chef Everest high pressure stove we love. Previously we had a Camp Chef low pressure stove and the burners were too big and it wouldn't stay lit in any wind so we bought the other one.

Ditto here. We were unjhappy with our Coleman Perfectflow and decided to try the Camp Chef. We bought our Everest in early June and immediately dumped our Coleman. We love the Camp Chef. A little bigger surface compared to the Coleman, sturdier construction, lots of heat and a very low simmer. We use ours on high pressure hooked up to a 5 lb tank. You can buy a case for it but It fits perfectly in the Escape laundry bag we got tat the rally in June.

We have been using the bag for laundry. It really is a good solution to dirty clothes, wish we had of figured this out ages ago.

I went and looked at the two burner camp chef today on sale for $99. Prob will buy it but it's very big and heavy guess I can put it in my TV not sure where else it would fit. Really like the griddle that goes with it.

It's the Everest low pressure? Not sure I really understand about low and high pressure. Thinking I would like to use a quick connect and the trailer propane tanks.

Ok it was the explorer camp chef stove not sure if I should get it - it's big looks really well built. Or the Everest smaller more portable. One is high pressure and one is low I'm guessing with the right adapter both would work. I want to be able to control the heat and it to stay lit.

I have the pro-30 -- that's their big single-burner. I'm very happy with it, though as others observed it does have some issues with wind.

If I recall correctly, the "mountain" series (which would include everest) are high pressure. They will work fine off a tank, but if you want to connect them to the low pressure outlet on the side of your trailer, you're out of luck. No combination of adapters will work for that.

Boy, if one of these companies made the effort to make a quality 2 burner, low pressure stove, they could make a killing. RV forums web wide are constantly talking about this. It sure would be nice to hook up the the quick connect.

The only other thing, is to make one that simmers good. I have yet to use on (other that the naphtha gas ones) where you can effectively take the flame down to a low simmer. Doug, how does the Everest do at a really low flame?

We bought the Everest this summer -- the reviews were great -- not just on this forum, but everywhere. I am having a love/hate relationship with it, but it's getting better -- I had a wrestling match every time I needed to attach the propane cannister, but it did seem like either it got less stiff or I got more adept. I never had a problem with the Coleman. Terry didn't have as much difficulty but it was stiff for him too. The lack of a handle is annoying, particularly because it is heavier than the Coleman -- maybe that's why it doesn't have the handle. We store it under the bed putting it through the hatch. It is also hard to get it to stay at a low simmer -- but that also seems to be better after using it for a few weeks -- I don't know if we just understand the knob better or it got unstiff.
The good thing is that things get cooked fast! Water boils quickly, stews get cooked -- there's a lot of power and the burners didn't go out because of wind -- the only time they went out when we were trying to get it to go very very low. There is plenty of room for two good size pots/pans.

My Everest has the handle molded into the bottom of the stove.

I believe most of Camp Chef's stoves (not the Everset, but the Explorer and other one, two or three burner stoves) can run directly off of the quick connect on RVs. Camp Chef even sells a hose without a regulator for this purpose.

Seems to me you would just pull the regulator off a stove and replace it with a straight hose as the quick-connect comes after the tank regulator already - at least that worked on my last rig.

The issue for me with their low pressure stove, is that they are so darn big, and stowing them would be an issue. Right now I stow my Coleman under my dinette seat, on edge beside the batteries. I see the Everest has exactly the same dimensions, but a bit longer, so it would fit too. Unfortunately it is in the same category as the Coleman, in that it can't be converted to low pressure.

And yes, Camp Chef does sell a connector that replaces the regulator, then any low pressure hose with a quick connect and the right fittings can be used.

I installed the Camp Chef stove/oven in our Boler. The 2 burner stove we love, easy to control, I can actually simmer sauces on it. The oven part is OK, it is not thematically controlled so keeping a steady temp for baking is a challenge

we have the Everest as well, you can cook in less than half the time- great for stir frying etc.
Love the stove, the best we've had yet.
I checked, it won' work on the quick connect.
