We used something similar at our deer camp a couple of years ago. Found an old full-sized milk can, loaded it up with corn on the cob, potatoes, onions, chicken, big sausages, and a host of spices, and put in on a grate over a campfire. We poured it all into a large trough we made for the purpose, and our 25 hunters just picked out their dinner. Cowboy version of a washtub clambake.

It looks like a great accessory for camp cooking. We have a crock pot but I'm impatient ... and I don't like leaving it plugged in when we're away from the trailer. Barbecue is great, but we really enjoy a good camp stew. Went ahead and ordered the cooker (with grate) and can't wait to try it out. Thanks Jim, for helping me find one more "thing" ;-)

(To see how it works, check out the YouTube videos.)

That's exactly what inspired the Can Cooker.

A pressure cooker doesn't release steam at all unless it is overheated. The open vent (instead of a pressure-control device) and lightweight construction suggest to me that the Can Cooker doesn't build any significant pressure. In their entire website this is the only reference to pressure:
Quote:
A vented lid helps relieve excess pressures and the safety clamps keep the lid in place.
The instructions say to turn down the heat as soon as steam is produced, which means as soon as the liquid starts to boil.

Does claim to lock in heat and steam...
But, wait until Donna sees this: silicon-sealed lid ensure years of hassle-free enjoyment.

Brian, I normally do not disagree with you but a pressure cooker does release the pressure, there is a lead weight that sits atop the escape hole and depending on what setting, it starts to release and jumps about while releasing the steam. Here is a link to one with either a 10/15 psi release T-Fal Stainless Steel 6.3-Qt. Pressure Cooker - Cookware - Kitchen - Macy's
It is a low pressure cooker....

Maybe I'll give a demo at Osoyoos with the can cooker. Something else new is this steamer colander narrow pot made for small rv stoves. Amazon.com: Kuhn Rikon 4200 12-Cup 4th Burner Pot: Kitchen & Dining
I purchased this more for smaller dinners and it's versatility ....great for pasta and vegetable dishes.

Good point, Jim - even a pressure cooker has a set pressure, and will release steam and air to avoid exceeding that pressure. Unless that set pressure is exceeded, nothing comes out.

With an open vent hole, the Can Cooker is a zero-pressure pot... like any pot with a lid. Of course, some pots have nicer-fitting lids than others, and some are shaped better for steaming than others; the Can Cooker is designed for closed steam cooking.

Other than a small griddle to go on our grill, and a small electric kettle, our Magma set is all we have to cook with, and sometimes we feel that is too much. We have removed a serving bowl or two, and just use the pots we are not cooking with for that use.

Oh yeah, we do have a mixing bowl to save the coating on the pots.

What you describe is what our stock pot with a lid does. It will steam things quickly. I have to be missing something here, and am interested to see this pot, just to set things straight in me wee heed.

Well, I bought some OldBay today and I'm hoping to steam some shrimp in beer with Old Bay in the Can Cooker at the rally. If it is good as it sounds, I'll have some samples. I'll be easy to find, just follow your nose....

My brother-in-law has a Can Cooker, and he loves it. I don't think it's something I'll add to my collection of bring-alongs, but for someone who doesn't already have a bunch of cooking equipment, I can see it.
