I have found the thermometer on the Spitfire to be very accurate, something that is good to be able to rely on. I do use a meat thermometer for critical foods.

I was asked this before, but to be honest I can't remember why I ruled it out, but I definitely took it into consideration too. BTU's, cooking area, build, size, reviews by others? Not sure, but I will compare again later, I have to run out now.

BTW, which Sea-B-Que were you looking at, I think they have 2 or 3.

Yeah, the Sea-b-que small has about 5" less depth to the grill area. The other dimensions are roughly the same. Might work for 2 people, but probably not enough grill area for 4.

Use Dickinson Marine's website for a full description on all of them:

As for putting the toaster oven where the microwave normally goes, I suppose that's fine - depending on the oven. They can get quite hot, so I'd be concerned about using certain ones in a cabinet enclosure due to the fire hazard.
I wasn't clear enough in my post. We use the microwave location only to STORE the toaster oven--a handy spot for it. We don't cook with it at that location for the reasons you state.

Yeah, that makes sense.

Since we'll have solar, amps aren't really an issue with it either.

Would be great to know your thoughts between the two - when you get a chance. Not sure how long they'll be on sale for.....
thanks,

From their web site ( http://www.dickinsonmarine.com/bbqs.php ) you will find that the Spitfire has 176 sq. in. cooking surface and the Sea-B-Que is 148 sq. in.
Spitfire weighs 30 lbs. and SBQ is 18 ( not sure how that is achieved ).
Spitfire has handles either side so you can pick it up easily ( even with the cover on ). My Spitfire has a latch to lock it closed ( not showed in the illustration ). Don't know about the SBQ.

BTW. The heavy duty vinyl cover was included in the box.

Bags,

I have one of these but it won't work on my propane burner. Never thought about inside the trailer. How do you use yours?

I think you hit on some of the key points, the Spitfire has a few nicer features, like the handles. Mine doesn't have a latch on the lid, though that has never been too much of an issue. The Spitfire also comes with a cover, which is nice when other stuff around it may be bouncing around on the road.

Mostly I don't use it.
I have used it on my butane one-burner stove. With the flame turned fully down, oven temp was 350F. Since I was re-heating pulled pork I didn't want it that high so I put in on the Weber Q grill with the lid raised. Got it down to 225F that way.
I've never used it in the trailer.
I have thought of leaving it at home to save weight.
If I'm going to roast a chicken, I use the Q.
If I need cookies, I go to Safeway.

Just keeps getting better. ETI informed me yesterday that our Spitfire 180 arrived (we ordered it from the factory directly and had them ship it to Chilliwack from Surrey) and is safely stored in our trailer. Christmas in March!

Wow, 3 years ago shipping to Calgary was only $40. Hope you enjoy the BBQ as much as we do.

Ours cost that much in extra gas when we drove into Surrey to pick it up after picking up our 19'. Driving in vancouver rush hour traffic immediately after hooking up our 19' for the very first time was a blast. Kidding!

I'm still trying to decide if I prefer the Spitfire 180 or my Weber Q. Problem with the Spitfire was getting the heat low enough to roast a chicken half without cremating it. Dickinson sent me a new regulator under warranty and I'll be comparing this spring.

Jim, I am going to get the Spitfire 80 grill like you mentioned on a previous Forum discussion. I too have the quick connect installed. You mention "I bought the parts for the hose and connections from Fairview Fittings". What other parts for the hose and connections are needed? Thanks

As an Alberta resident, I certainly don't want the tax any more coordinated between the provinces. Both have exactly that same federal GST (Goods and Services Tax), and they both have clear provincial sales tax: B.C. charges 7%, and Alberta charges none. If a product shipped from B.C. to Alberta gets taxed by B.C., I'm okay with that - it would be the same as walking into the B.C. store, paying the appropriate tax, and giving the product to a courier to send it to Alberta... and that's basically what's happening.

The B.C. sales tax on the Spitfire - if it is even charged on a sale to an Alberta resident - would be about $21 (at the $299 price quoted earlier) to $29 (at the $420 list price shown on the web site). That's a big range, but I don't know now meaningful "list price" is in this case. I'm not sure what is adding up to make the $80 difference, or even which location was cheaper.
