F150 Crewcab Boat/Canoe carrying set up

One of the things I would like to do with the new trailer is to head out to fishing spots with a 12 foot aluminum boat or a canoe.

I have an 2016 F150 crewcab with a 5.5 foot box and to carry a 12 foot aluminum boat, I think I could do this with a high rack in the back of the box and a roof rack over the front doors of the cab. The complication is I would also like to have a tri-fold tonneau cover on the box so I can leave the motor and what ever else out of site.

Anyone have a set up that will work?

I carry a 14' canoe on a set of Thule roof racks with the canoe carriers on them. The newer locking mechanism is a very solid connection to the roof/door jams. The issue might be getting the boat up there. You can get a cross piece extension (Outrigger) that looks like it'd help, but I've yet to get one.

I watched a guy load his 16' aluminum boat atop his pickup/camper.
A power winch pulled the bow of the boat up to the truck and then pulled the stern up in the air to where it was aligned with the vertical rack. Then the rack tilted back an over the cab of the truck/camper. Quite an engineering feat, and I expect, expensive.

If you do a search on the internet for tonneau cover rack, it'll turn up a number of them that would work. BAKflip makes a setup, pricey, but it'd work for you.

That's good to hear. It's getting tedious rigging the Aire traveler for a quick paddle and my inflatable paddle board experiment on fast water did not turn out so well. I was going to install a Thule goalpost on a front hitch mount but wasn't keen on having that post in my field of vision. Woo Hoo!, a Wenonah 15' prospector is in my future. Thanks Bob! Scott

I was going to go the goalpost route too, but was thinking a headache rack just behind the cab for the other end. Ended up being too long a distance for a shorter boat. Was something like 12' between them. Saw an F150 with the roof racks when in FL last winter, when I saw how well they grabbed the truck I decided to go that route. Plus I already had the Thule cross bars and canoe brackets. I wouldn't do it without the brackets, they hold the boat from any movement.

The canoe in question is 14'6" +/-, I can center it on the racks and it's a little less then a foot from the front of the camper.

If you want to try the goalpost, I know a guy who has a brand new Yakima that'll never be used. Unfortunately you also have to buy a front receiver. Just kidding, too heavy to ship.
