The issue I had with the screen room was that the awning had to be extended to it's full height in order for the walls to hang properly. No tilt was allowed which I always do in case of showers. In addition it takes up storage space.

?
It doesn't take much of a slope to get water to run downhill. I don't see the problem.

We've been in our 19' for 5 months this year. Got the screen room. It works for bugs, but useless in cold winds and rain. You can order screen rooms which convert to solid plastic walls for times of rain, wind, and cold and you want more protection. Love the trailer and the screen room is the only option we wouldn't have ordered, in retrospect.

I think the screened rooms are great for areas with lots of bugs I don't run into that problem often but I could see the plastic wall being nice for bad weather not sure if they would hold up in wind.

The screen room for the 5.0.2 has a flap so the step is useable.

Screen room
We did not use our screen room the first year we had the 19 but have used it several times out this year. Only takes a few minutes to install. Rita has worked the skirt over so that the lower ends velcro to the screen room. The skirt is slit so that the step fits through. Jihad Jake waits at the zipper and has not been a problem at all. At the very end of the day, while preparations to turn in for the night are being made, I like to sit in the lawn chair in the screen room and listen to the quiet. The camper mat "floor" and solid wall of the Escape give a nice "room" feeling. Calms my jangled nerves. I like putting things inside the screen room for the night, keeps the heavy dew off. And best of all. No bugs. We really like it. That said, the Clams we saw at Townsend were nice too.

Can you provide photos and full instructions for this slit solution to make the step usable?
You know, next time you use it.

Slit skirt. Up to here
I'll work with my wife to get that done. Code for, "I'll open the garage door. So she can take pictures and write the description." I'm good for, well. Not much.

I have both and prefer the Clam. Easier to set up, high quality, and portable. Don't need the awning set up. Can use in some wind if staked properly whereas the awning and screen room seem more vulnerable. Cheaper. Easy to replace.

Screen room at Yellow River State Forest in NE Iowa.
The ground fell away from the trailer slightly and it made for a good set up for the screen room.
Our seven year old grandson caught a brook trout and four rainbows for his limit in 25 minutes. A good day.

Grandson's trout
Three of the five he caught. Four on a spinner.
