Screen Room - Opinions

What are your opinions / experiences with the ETI installed screen room that attaches to the awning? I am considering having one installed, but it is pricey...

Some folks like them, but I didn't like the idea of all the snaps on the trailer. Don't know how easy/hard they are to set up, having never seen one in person. Easier for us to get a screen shelter such as a Clam. Those were quite popular at the Bluebonnet Rally. Very roomy and inexpensive too.

I have the screen room. I think a lot depends on where you camp and how large the mosquitoes, black flies, deer flies, horse flies. It is quite easy to set up ( once you remember how ).
The snaps are no issue, but there are a lot of them. Minor irritation with mine is that you can't use the step that is attached to the trailer because the skirt that prevents insects from coming in under the trailer goes over the step.
Bonus is, as I understand it, the screen room protects the awning from wind gusts.

The Escape Trailer screen room costs $400.00 Canadian dollars
The Clam 12x12 screen room costs $300.00 US dollars
Basically the same price today. I think the Escape screen room enlarges the living area better than the Clam screen room but then I have neither.

We also have the screen room . The best part is it is under your awning almost being part of your trailer increasing your living area . Snaps look fine to us .

I bought the Clam Screenhouse. I have only set it up, and that took less than 2 minutes, though without stakes or guylines if needed. Looking it over, it is of excellent quality. We prefer to be able to have something separate from the trailer, and only bring it as needed.

I plan to do a review on this shelter, I just want to give it a real world try first.

We opted to continue using the separate, stand-alone screen room that we already had. Some advantages over the one attached to the trailer are:
  • Can put it over the picnic table at campsites where we cannot get the picnic table under the awning. Gives us rain and bug protection at the picnic table too.
  • Cheaper than the one attached to the trailer.
  • If something breaks, cheaper to get a new one, and more options available.
  • Get to keep it if we ever sell the trailer.
  • No extra things attached to the trailer - fewer points of possible leaks or other failure on the trailer.
  • Easier to wash the trailer - less things to scrub around.
  • Don't need to open/close the screen everytime someone wants to enter/exit the trailer.
  • More options of where to put the screened in room.
  • Another outdoor place with protection from the rain - doubles the size of outdoor rain-sheltered area!

We have had in the past screened in rooms attached to awnings they are greatly appreciated when the bugs are bad or when it's raining. But one thing I want point out is the door zipper never last long when kids are around.

We opted for the screen room as I prefer something attached to the trailer that gives me the feeling of an "extra room" -- especially with two dogs running in and out. As it is, we always have the awning out when we camp so the screen room is just an added bonus (we also have portable dog fencing that fits nicely under the awning). Also, I understand that it's hard (impossible?) to have it installed after the trailer is built due to the snaps.

But like everything else, it depends on your camping style. You may prefer a movable screen room so as to take advantage of picnic tables, views, etc.

My screen room was installed about a year after I got the trailer. Wasn't an issue, that I know of.

As you can see, there is no issue washing around the snaps. They aren't big enough to notice.

I have the screen room and a clam. When it is just the two of us, I like the rain and bug protection at the door with the screen room. As noted, I had to buy a plastic step since the built in does not work with the bug skirt. Aftermarket installation was no problem.
Like the clam for larger groups because it fits over the table. I have used both at the same time. Another satisfied customer.
The zipper is a weakness around grandkids. I either don't zip or do it for them.
So good so far.

We have used our screen room just once in the year since we got our Escape - at Kokanee Creek Provincial Park last July - we were very happy not to get eaten alive by the mosquitoes!

Thanks for the feedback. For me, the biggest selling point on the awning screen room is being able to walk out of the trailer into it. I really like that it is an extension of the trailer. The downside seems to be the setup, and price. Does it roll up to be stored separately? How much room does it take up?

Set-up is no problem, really. Folds and stores in its own bag, about 3' x 2' x maybe 1'. Depends how much you squish it.

Our used trailer came with one and we've never used it, but the bag isn't very big and is stored in our garage with the double bed pillows (we use a permanent mattress). It's maybe a little bigger than a typical tote bag. I've not had any problems washing around the snaps, and my trailer is 10 years old and I don't see any signs of water intrusion anywhere, including the snap locations. I can imagine it being very handy in certain parts of the country, but in the NW we just don't have the mosquito populations some areas do.

People walk into them also. Some owners put a thread design or maybe stickers so that dogs and people do not walk into them. I never did get around to doing that on our screen door but will this time, I hope.

Not sure how you wouldn't notice that the screen room is zipped up.

I was thinking about our screen door and lots of folks have a problem with their dogs that way. The dogs may push right through though in some cases, zippers or not. Well, so might some people!
