Stove cover for two burner stove

We found a great and functional stove cover that is also a bamboo cutting board; it is located at http://www.improvementscatalog.com/p...tting-board.do . We ordered one and it seems great, but we won't be able to fully test it until February when we pick up our new 19ft.! $20 plus shipping.

Yes, it worked great. We had to raise it up a bit, but otherwise it is great and covers the two burner stove quite well! It adds more usable surface to the counter. I also found the same cutting board at a local housewares outlet store (same price, no shipping). As you can see from the first photo, it almost covers the stove from front to back; there is about 1/2" on either side that shows from below the board. It fits with room to spare lengthwise. The legs (other photo) that were added consist of a plastic floor protector that you can nail on the bottom of chairs. I added a small round of cork to keep it from sliding as much. I think I used super glue to secure it. This raised the board up more than enough from the stove burners. We like it because it is more useful than the typical enamel stove covers.

And I think you posted elsewhere that you ordered your camper without the range hood. Is that working out well for you?

Liz,
We did leave out the range hood and also swapped the kitchen sink and range (locations). Since the range is closer to the door and also the Maxx Air fan, there has been no need for us to have a hood/fan. We did this because we wanted it to be more open in our Escape and we have no regrets. We haven't had any issues due to leaving out the hood. We also added another light above the stove to take the place of the one that would have been in the hood.

Linda, I'm glad to hear the no-range-hood version is working for you, since we, too, would prefer a more open camper. Thanks for mentioning your extra light since that wouldn't have occurred to me.

We have the range hood. I've used the fan twice. Sounds like a jet taking off in the confines of the trailer.

As long as my wife does the inside cooking, the fan is loud and minimally effective.

If and when I cook, it is usually BBQ style so the fan (and smoke detector) may be useful.

Does anyone have the stainless steel burners and cover? I'm getting the stainless sink and would prefer everything to match.
(What can I say - it's the decorator in me!) I was also thinking of going without the hood fan because the Maxx fan is apparently very efficient.



Does anyone have any pictures that show them?

Hi: rvomaha...We do use ours often...and yes it does sound like a 747 at takeoff speed.
It is helpful when frying certain foods like bacon or garlic or boiling vegies!!! You must remember to release the small catches that hold the exterior flap down...and then replace them again before towing away tho. Alf

I thought of another reason why we did without the range hood: we thought it would be good to have one less cut-out on the side of our trailer. Also, we have had the little latches on the vent hatch break off on previous trailers. I think with or without on the range hood concept is another totally personal preference based on your own unique needs and how you will use your trailer. For us, it's great without the hood and switching the sink and stove. The range hood could always be added later if we, or future owners (after we are dead......we love our Escape 19!) wanted one.

I agree with comments about noisy fans; both the range hood fan and the Maxx Air fan are noisy, but there are more speed options on the Maxx Air fan and it is far more efficient than the range hood fan (in my opinion, anyway). Perhaps someone with both can check the noise levels with a decibel meter!?

I only use the range hood fan for two things - keeping the smoke alarm from going off when making toast (in an electric toaster) and to pull out the moisture when boiling water for pasta. Doesn't happen often - as long as the weather allows I usually cook outside on a Coleman combination grill/1 burner stove.

I don't use the fan very often (and I don't use the one I have at home either) but I love the light!!!!

We didn't have one in the Boler of course, but then we had a small window that opened right over the stove.. I think I prefer the fan....and do use it when boiling water....

The hood in our 5.0 is not that noisy, much quieter than our Casita. We took the hood out of the Casita because it was big and very noisy, more like the 747 takeoff you mentioned.

Just to add a little to this thread about the 747 fan noise in the 17B - I had brainwave several years ago and took a little bit of bowden cable (bicycle brake cable) and built a system to open the flap and hold it open as needed.

I fixed the cable casing to the inside of the exterior cut-out with a small clamp. The little nub that hooks into the bicycle rim brake facing outward on the lower portion of the flap. I cut the casing and cable long enough to poke through the cable end through the fan cabinet and made a finger loop that allows you to open the flap. It lets a goodly portion of steam out without having to run the fan or the fantastic fan.

It easily opens and closes the flap and bonus: you can push it in from the outside when you are fixing the vent hold-downs for travel. Voila!

Now if we could only remember to take the battery out of the smoke alarm when making toast.

Back to the topic of covering the two burner stove------

Do you who have the optional white cover like it? Would you buy it again? Pros and cons?

We're still looking at the Camco 43753 RV Stoveaway Topper Cutting Board instead of the white stove cover. It is meant to sit directly on the burners and not slide at all during travel. Could somebody please take a look at your two-burner stove and tell me whether the knobs stick up higher than the burners? If so, I can picture the Camco Board rocking and not nestling on the burners like it it is designed to.

Liz, just check out our 3 burner stove and the knobs are at the same height as the burners. We also have the Camco cutting board but have not yet used it. Our son has used it and said it works well -- the backing does a good job of keeping the board in one place.
