After first looking for a 12V TV, not finding anything I really liked, and spending way to much time searching, I finally realized that it was no big deal to use a wee inexpensive inverter I already had and going with a 120V TV. This also saved me from having to buy a 12V power source for my laptop.

So my recommendation (take it for what it is) is to just buy the TV you like and use a $30-50 inverter, something you can use for a laptop too. If you have an installed inverter then you are already set up for any TV.

If you do find a 12V TV that is a good value that has a great picture and controls, then by all means go for it.

I wanted a smart, wide viewing angle, dual USB, HDMI, 1080p tv with good audio. Guess what - not in 12v.

Ended up with a 24" LG.

My Insignia 12V TV is 1080p and has an HDMI input. I think it has only one USB port, though.

Here is what I bought to be able to run my 19" Insignia television from Best Buy ($100 in 2013) on my trailer batteries:

I was at Costco today and they have a 24" Samsung TV with a brick which supplies 14V. I have one of these and know that if you get our make the appropriate cable it will run on 12V. There is a thread with the correct jack size.

I installed a 19" plasma tv I had lying around, decided it was too big and ordered a 12v 15.5 LED tv, something I can leave mounted on the wall while traveling. Taking up and down anything bigger gets old fast and I do not want to expedite things at my age.

Another vote for Insignia 19". Ours is 720p with a integral DVD player but that appears discontinued. We use 12V direct with a cord from Amazon similar to what Karen linked.

This is still available and is 12V input:

We recently bought a Supersonic TV which runs on 12V and has a 120V adapter and works great. In order to keep down the clutter, we just run it on 12V all the time and leave the 120V to 12V transformer at home. Its good enough quality for the RV. Most of the cable signals are low def anyway and we have the Jack TV antenna which provides a better picture than cable.

Ours also runs fine on 12 volts despite the brick having an 14 volt output. Don't let that put you off buying one.

You can also just cut the plug off and put it on a 12 volt cigarette lighter cord.

Current draw for TV when boondocking

We have never had a TV in our trailer, so no experience. The new AS trailer came with a flat panel Samsung mounted to an articulating arm which can be viewed from both ends of the trailer. Last week we were boondocking at a local beach and decided to try out the TV. It is an AC model, so I plugged it into a inverter outlet. (600w) While watching it was pulling about 10 amps! In the hour long NCIS show we consumed about 10% of our battery. I turned off the TV and the inverter draw was about 1 amp shown on the Trimetric monitor. Have any of you measured the current draw of your 12 vdc TV's? It would seem the DC option would be more efficient than doing the dc/ac/dc conversion.

Sounds high to me. When I run my TV on a small inverter the TV plus the Dish satellite receiver draw 20-30 watts - as reported by the inverter. (So it is almost certainly not showing the inverter overhead.)

I have a small AC samsung, it draws about 5 amps, don't know how much of that is just the cheap inverter's overhead.

I just went out to the trailer to verify the measurements taken while camping.
Trailer with nothing on but the propane detector and any phantom draws. .2amps
600w inverter on with no load. .8amps
600w inverter and antenna booster .9amps
600w inverter and antenna booster and TV 8.0amps
Looks like the TV is the big loser.

I keep reading reviews on 12V TV/DVD combos, and they all are bad. May have to go with a 120V model just to get something decent. A few bad reviews are understandable, but 15% rate most of them a 1 (out of five). And lots of reviews slam sound output.

I really see no reason to not use a 120V TV. A small inverter is not much more than making a cord to connect direct to 12V, and the TV's are better and cheaper.

Regardless of the TV, using an external speaker idyllic gives way better sound. Our UE Boom 2 is fantastic, and compact.

Just one man's opinion.

those reviews is another reason I bought an extended warranty offered on amazon, 4 years for $15, which makes it more palatable.
