Some time ago I read an article about thermal cookers. I think it was on the DIY RV site. I was quite intrigued and did some more research. Hit the Amazon site, of course. The size I wanted, a 1.5 liter was out of stock, but it finally came back in. This is it:

I am in LOVE with it! I wanted something that would cook a meal for me while I was otherwise engaged. Such as driving the rig or vending at a show. Many times I'm just too tired to fix a meal, especially after a long day. With all my food restrictions, going out to eat is usually not an option. And when vending, sandwiches gets old really fast as gluten-free bread is pretty wretched.
Basically what I do is fill it in the morning with my meal choice, bring it to a boil in the container, put it inside an insulated, sealed outer container and then let it cook while I'm doing other stuff. I don't need to plug it in.
I'm still playing around with getting the meat and potatoes sized properly and timing, but I'm getting there. Out of 3 meals (so far) one was so-so, but still edible, while the other two were much better.
When I went up to ETI last week to get the awning fixed, I started a pot of corned beef and potatoes. It cooked while I was driving up there and it was ready when I pulled into the campground and was hungry for dinner.
I put it inside a small soft-sided cooler, put towels around it and set it behind my seat in the Tundra. I did all that to lessen the risk of it falling over when I hauled ass around corners (not!).
If you're cooking for more than one or two people, you'll want a larger size, but this is the perfect size for my needs. I'm heading over to Spokane this weekend for a craft show and I'm going to use it for lunch on both days.
This cookbook has also been quite handy:

Anyway, wanted to let others know about this nifty device. And I'm wondering if others make use of it. I was not interested in a crock pot and this fits my needs much better.
