Water Hoses

Just wondering what others are using.
We've bought 2 - camco water hoses and they both ended up leaking/dripping at the brass fittings.
Any suggestions?

We REALLY like the blue ones with the heavy hose fittings and the spring reinforced area on each end. These have not leaked and they are replacements for about 3 sets of the white ones. I believe these are also Camco, but called premium hoses, or some such thing. Again, easy to spot. They are blue hoses with chromed fittings and heavy springs at each end and they are water safe.

Are they leaking through the crimps or do they just need the washers replaced? You could get a higher quality hose like a Gilmour, that has nickel plated fittings and a 7 year warranty, but of course, it's more money.

My experience is that any hose can drip if the faucet you are connecting to is worn and/or your hose washer is worn.

Yep. Worth the price. Note the connector that you can put a wrench on if necessary.

They look good...maybe will try those.
The ones I am currently using - white cheaper camco do not leak because of the washers, they're fine. they leak between the outside threaded part and the brass crimped part- basically between the two parts.
The blue ones don't appear to be in two parts,
Thanks,

I have the white hoses too, and I despise them. I've carefully coiled them and still ended up with crimps in the hose that won't go away.
Are these blue hoses heavy enough that I won't have that problem?

Yes, the blue ones are a lot better, I'm using both until the white ones fail, which will be soon and then I'll be all blue.

You can spend a bazillion dollars on hoses, but there's two connections you really can't control. The plastic city water connection at the trailer and the city water hose bib. IF you cross thread the plastic connection on your trailer... even a little bit, you're screwed. And the bib hose connection.. a million folks have used that before you.

So.. what can you do? I purchased one of these for the trailer: RVH2O - KwikLink, Home Page You screw it on once... and you're done. The quick connect takes care of the water hose, brass fittings/stainless steel fittings doesn't matter because you only hook it up once. The other end? Carry extra washers.. ahead of the water regulator and hope for the best.

Donna,
Does your 5.0TA have the same city water connection as the 5.0 Classic? Which one of the KwikLink connectors did you get? Do you screw it onto the trailer city water input and leave it there...and the door closes? I'm not sure how this works.

On Ten Forward, there's no door. The city water connection and simple water fill are all exposed. Like this:
Name: jr_polar_white_city-gravity_water_hatch_without_door_-_54172-3.jpg
Views: 243
Size: 13.5 KB

so, I purchased this: Standard Model - Kwik Link Connector, RVH2O - KwikLink

For those with doors, you may need this: Door Model, RVH2O - KwikLink

Or maybe something here: http://www.rvh2o.com/category/kwiklink.html

CALL and ask them. They're very, very helpful.

The weak point, other than the hoses leaking is the connection. I use one of the 90 degree brass elbows to take the strain off the wall connection and with everything in position properly, no leaks. It's when there is some strain and the hose is not properly seated you have leaks. Unless the hose is leaking past the connection, this little gadget works. If the leak is at the source, I carry an extra rubber gasket. For those places where the threads are stripped or non-existent there is this little gizmo, the water bandit.

We have a water thief (bandit) for when we come across a water connection that has no threads. Never thought of using it for leaks or stripped threads. Good idea.

We have the door and I tried a number of devices to avoid screwing on the hose. We could never shut the door. With the good hexoganal nut rather than the round brass it is quite easy now with the blue hoses.

We use the Home Hardware clear flat hose. It is drinking water safe and well made. The super hardware store in Osoyoos is a Home Hardware store. It is self draining and rolls up easily. Doesn't kink like the white ones.

We bought one of those as well , but unfortunately it did not last long - less than 2 weeks . It just split open while in Niagara Falls . Bought at Home Hardware Calgary .

25' works well for us in most cases and we are now at about 22,000 miles of travel in our 15.
