Is there a way to eliminate the annoying advertising? Lack of excessive
commercialism was one thing that I really liked about this forum.

I had a similar reaction this morning. I hope there is a forum solution, but I suspect the only real answer to this rampant garbage is to stay off grid.

I noticed this about 5a PST and wonders how long it would take for somebody to say something. While not my desire to see these adds, "TANSTAAFL" sums up the situation quite handily. I would have thought our moderators would have notified the Forum members beforehand, but that notwithstanding, there are likely some costs associated with maintaining this website and the advertising revenues are likely used to offset these costs. Small price to pay for the abundance of good information I've received over the past two years.

I'm a moderator and received no advance notification. I noticed it along with the rest of y'all.

But, nothing is "free" and for a no-charge-to-join forum for the members, I have to agree about the need to pay for the maintenance, etc.

I use Firefox and AdBlock Plus. I added a rule to block the ads. (right click on the ad, then I think it was block this image.)

Who pays for servers, IT support etc. if there are no ads?
When Jeff owned the site, he got donations from members to help keep it going, but he was still out of pocket.
People are free to start their own internet, without ads, should they choose to do so.
I got no notice either.

No offense meant, Donna (and our other moderators). But I'm amazed that whoever runs this website just "sprung" it on all of us. Makes me wonder ... Who is behind the Forum's green curtain pulling all the levers and flipping the switches? Anybody know?

I don't see any advertising on my computer. Using Firefox with Adblock. Maybe that makes a difference?

Hi: Zardoz... "Wizard of Oz" Andy Robinowicz? Same fellow owns this forum that owns Fiberglass, Casita, Airstream etc. Social Knowledge LLC.
Next thing will be in order to have no Adds...paid subscriptions. I'm almost at the point of heading back to MFRV.com as a full timer. At least I have no adds there... YET!!! Alf

Adblock plus works just fine. The only difference that I notice is the number of ads blocked.

So far it appears that I have hyped Home Depot, Zulily, and one other in my previous message block. J Mac, Home Depot showed up on yours. But interestingly, if I "log on" I don't see the ads in our message blocks. BTW, I get the financial aspect; but the ad industry sure is sneaky!

I'm on a Mac, using Safari as my browser with Ad Block Plus added as an extension. No ads here or any other site. It's wonderful.

For those interested, to instal Ad Block or Ad Block Plus (as well as other extensions) into Safari:
-click on the Safari menu at the top left of your screen
-in the drop down menu that appears, click on Safari Extensions
-in the new window that opens, scroll down to Ad Block or further down to Ad Block Plus and click on your selection
-follow the simple instruction from there to instal it.

All I get is the ETI ad and a Campground Report. I feel ignored.

Concur. I use adblock plus. Its available for most platforms. I am running it on Android with no issues. If anyone is having trouble configuring it, pm me.

Yes the ads started today and they consume a lot of space on the iPhone. Will look at Adblock or similar ap. too bad this has now hit the forum.

I'm sorry there was no announcement - this was an oversight to be sure. That said, the website has expenses, servers, software and tech support all cost $$$ and so the ads help in this respect.
