Hello from Utah

We live in southern Utah near Zion National Park, and are about to pull the trigger on a new Escape. Come visit us and we'll show you all of the locals secret places. Still debating between the 19 and 5.0, but we are very excited and looking forward to advice from all of you seasoned Escape-ers.

Welcome Kevin, big difference between a 19 and a 5.0, have you seen them?

Thanks Bob,

I have not seen them. Hoping to visit a few in Salt Lake next week. Like most Escape owners I want to get the smallest one that will work for us. I think the 19 will work based on looking at other brands that size, but I am intrigued by the ease of towing a small 5th wheel. Although it is 1,000 pounds heavier. Your thoughts?

Kenvinc:

This may not help you much, but we have a 17B. If you'd like to see an Escape, we're in Sandy--We'll be in town until the the 16th--we're leaving on a trip to WY to see the Eclipse on the 17th. Send me a PM if you'd like to arrange a meeting before then. Good luck with you decision making--Escape design and quality is great!

I'd get the one your spouse thinks works best.

I wanted a queen size bed and a bathroom, my wife didn't care for the aisle width of the 19 we looked at. The 5.0 is wider and has a bigger kitchen area so she's happy, has the full queen bed for me so we were both happy, at the cost of a full size truck.

I would have been happy with a 19 and had looked at one, Deb not so much. Although the extra space of the 5.0 sure is nice when you travel in it for 3 months.

Kevin,
You do not mention your tow vehicle, that may come into the decision making.

Wow thanks Dave. We are going to Wyoming to see the eclipse as well. They are expecting 500,000 people. Do you have a place to camp?

Thanks Bob. I've got a Tacoma and they tell me it will work, but I'll lose the truck bed space. Tough decision.

Jim,

I have a Tacoma. They tell me it will work, but that's probably pushing it.

I am in Salt Lake but I don't get my 19 until November. I am planning to tow with my 2016 Tacoma but again no experience yet. I am afraid it will be the crush of people in Jackson WY that will be blocking the sun. I'm going anyway.

Kevin, we love our 19. The only other Escape we would ever switch to is the 5.0TA. But, it would be very hard for us to give up all the cargo space in the bed of the truck.

All things considered, the 19 suits the needs of the two of us perfectly right now.

I had a 2012 Escape 19 which I sold and moved up to a 2014 Escape 21. After 2 years, my propane tanks were getting low so I decided to move up to 5.0 TA. I sold my 21 and put in my order for a 5.0 TA. I started researching the hitch for my Ram and decided that I wanted an Andersen 5th wheel due to the weight savings. Then over the next 4 months doubt issues started cropping up about the 5.0. Do we really need a bigger unit, more weight, heavy pin load, loss of bed use, climbing stairs and so on. At the last minute I asked Escape if I could switch to a 19, it was a known factor as we had one, smaller, lighter, narrower and use of bed available, no steps for my sometimes bad knee. So the rest is history, so to speak, went out to Chilliwack to pick up in September, highly recommend the factory pick up. That is my story and I'm sticking to it.

Welcome aboard, Kevin.

You do live near some of the most uniquely beautiful landscapes out there. I have been to Zion a couple time, and will be back for certain.

You are debating between what for me are the two best current Escape layouts. We had a 19 for over 6 years and loved it, and now have had the 5.0TA all this year. Both have their merits, and both have full queens tucked out of the way somewhat.

I do not think the Tacoma has enough payload for a fifth wheel though. But, with these trailers I maintain to first figure out what trailer will suit you best, THEN pick the tow vehicle, if at all possible. The trailer will outlast a half dozen trucks.

Thanks, we looked at the airstream 16. It's wider but looked like it would work. It's really expensive and didn't speak to us.

Kevinc:

We've got reservations at Boysen State Park for Aug. 18--21 (made last Feb.). We plan to drive up on Thurs., and return on Wed. (23rd), so hopefully we'll avoid some of the congestion. Where are you going up there?

Hello, Utah guys... we are thinking of going to the Shakespeare festival held in Cedar City, UT this month. If you've been can you give advice on best area campgrounds?

Hello Myron,

We only live about 45 minutes from Cedar City. There are lots of camping opportunities. You can go up Cedar Canyon and find several Forest Service campgrounds and tons of boondock or dry camping. Two of my Favorites are Te-Ah at Navajo Lake and Cedar Breaks National Moment. Cedar Breaks is spectacular if you've never been there. They are 30-40 minutes from Cedar City, and there are other campgrounds closer to town if you'd prefer.
