New Escape 21' owners!

Hello fellow Escape owners:

We have just ordered our new Escape 21', to be completed July 23, and we are very excited. We are impressed with all the information on this forum and it has really helped us to complete our build sheet!

Peter, how exciting! When is your build sheet due? Can I ask what options you ordered and maybe your reason for some of them. I’m not ready to order my 21’ yet, and am still in the fact gathering stage.

We love our new Escape 21, just back from its maiden voyage. Some time in June, you will start receiving daily pictures of the build of your trailer. Then it gets really difficult to wait until it's finally yours.

Welcome to the group.

As long as you will be in the area, the weekend before is another rally in MI
It's on the way

Hi Lisa,

We opted for all the things that would make boondocking and camping in all weathers available to us. We ordered the extra insulation and inverter with all outlets, heat pads with spray foam insulation, solar panel with charge controller, air conditioner, and 2-way hot water tank. We like light so we ordered the front window and the bathroom window as additional options as well as 2 extra LED captains reading lamps in the dinette area. We only need a two burner stove and microwave but chose the U shaped dinette and we did not choose any media equipment as we use our phones, tablet and blue tooth speaker for music, movies etc. We opted for some external options: exterior shower, LED awning strip, power tongue jack, exterior propane quick connect and storage box to make life a bit easier, however we did not go for the power awning as it's just one more thing to go wrong. We also opted for the foot flush toilet and shut off valve (had a leak in our current RV last year!). We figured this is our last trailer as we're in our 60s now and hope we can continue travelling and camping for years to come, so we wanted to be able to enjoy our Escape right from the start and not have to make changes and additions to it over the years. Therefore we have included options that could be added later for people who just want to start with the bare bones. Hope this helps with your selection process!

Fair comment about all the options you ordered. However, and I nearly made this point in another thread currently running about "I wish I had"...http://www.escapeforum.org/forums/f4...had-14967.html, in respect of the two burner stove, we have the new self igniting two burner stove in our new 21 which is really good. However, having had just the two burner stove in our current and previous trailer (a 17) and coming back from an almost six week trip, we are now somewhat regretting not getting the oven. Yes its a few extra bucks, but, especially travelling in the cooler months, having the oven option might give you quite a few extra choices for meals. Also, from a storage point of view, you can easily put pots and pans in the oven when travelling. If its to be your last trailer, make it a good one.

Our 21' is our second Escape. We opted for the oven in both (previously we owned a 19'). Every trip we make a pizza from scratch at least weekly. When at the coast (Oregon, California, and Washington), we usually add mussels to the pizza toppings. We also bake potatoes, warm-up leftovers, bake fish and chicken, make brownies and other desserts along with the occasional birthday cake (once, so far). We did not opt for the microwave as we often don't have shore power, so for us the space loss of the oven was mitigated by the space gained without a microwave.

You make a good case for an oven, Bob. We do a lot of Dutch oven cooking so I think we’re ok without one but others might really enjoy it. I blame the Oregon FGRV rally at Brandon back in 2008 for turning me onto Dutch oven cooking. And if you know Lori and Mike in CA, they just made the addiction ten times worse! We usually travel with just two smaller ones (dinner and dessert) unless we are meeting up with friends or family, then the sky is the limit!

Peter, thanks for your info. Donna D. suggested not looking behind at what you’ve needed in the past, but look at what you might need in the future (maybe where you want to go someday or your needs as you age). Good advice that it looks like you kept in mind.
