Some sort of mirror extension may be required, depending on the width of the tow vehicle and its mirrors; a Highlander is narrower than my sienna, and an Escape 21 is wider than my current trailer, so I'm pretty sure you'll need extensions.
A rear view camera can make backing easier, but is not required.

A brake controller is required, since all Escapes have brakes, all but the very smallest model need to use brakes with just about any tow vehicle, every model needs to use brakes with the Highlander... and the 21' is the second-biggest Escape. The brakes only work with a controller.

To handle the weight of the trailer's tongue without overloading the Highlander's rear axle, a weight distribution system (WD hitch) may be required; the Andersen is one option for WD.

When we pull the 21 with our Highlander, we use the Aero extension mirrors. They are very stable, and provide a lot of additional visibility. I like them. We also use the Anderson hitch. Overall, it makes for a very comfortable towing experience.

Daniel,
Search for "trailseeker" here on the forum. They live in Houston and have a 21, probably the closest one to you. I know they would be more than happy to show it to you if you can catch them at home! Also the first weekend of next month is the Matagorda Madness rally in Matagorda (should be listed here under the rally forum). There will be several Escapes of all types there. A great place to see them all except maybe the new 5.0TA.

Steve
