XE.com with the free draft option. Debits out of my account, they cut a draft to ETI in CAD at the accepted contract rate and mail it to ETI. They seem to receive the drafts at ETI within a week after accepting the contract rate and starting the process.
The nice thing is once you accept the rate that's what you get. On this payment, I set a bid for a higher rate than was being offered and gave them until Tuesday to accept my offer. They accepted withing 8 hours and notified me.

That is the current full rate. All banks etc. set their margin in the offer to you and it will usually run about 1.5+ or so under the full rate.

These rates are pretty amazing for US buyers, but it has to have a negative effect on the Canadian side. Doing some quick math, you could get a 5.0TA (I know, it's currently sold out for 2016 and they haven't announced the 2017 dates yet), option it out a bit, and a CAD price of $37,500 would be about $28,000 US!

For the individual consumer wanting to purchase goods it definitely does, but as a nation big on exports it mostly does us good, as companies from the US look to buy from our manufacturers, increasing our exports.

A Canadian dollar will always be worth a dollar to us.

Says he who isn't heading off after Xmas to the land where it's only worth 72 cents.

Oh well, at least it's not as bad as the UK where I sometimes look at price tags and think the price is quite reasonable and then remember that I have to double it.

But the bucks been down and it's been above par. Have to say if I was in the US and even thinking about ordering I'd do so when the opportunity arises.

It seems, Sir, that your info has been good at least a couple of times in the past.
May I ask what the "predictions" are for end of this year?

I've not been following. Last I heard predictions of 75 cents and holding and a while ago somebody predicting 59 cents.
No clue, and given my financial record, I can only suggest you do the opposite of whatever I do.

Exchange Confusion

I read two articles today that predict the US / Canadian exchange rate would remain at 77 cents US to 1 CanadIan dollar through 2016 . I also read another article that predicted the exchange rate would be .89 cents US to 1 Canadian Dollar later this year.
One of them is wrong but which one.?

Unless oil rebounds more than expected, along with a couple other factors, the 77 cents seems more likely. Having said that, I've been trading currency for years on Forex, and I have yet to figure out what the heck it's doing.

Going up!

We're of the opinion that you pay when it makes sense for your finances, rather than watching the rate like a hawk. Not even the best traders can predict exactly where it's going, and we are certainly not professionals.

Once again, the "expert" financial prognosticators are incorrect. Wish I had sent in a bigger amount immediately when we got our date.

Was a fun interview on the radio with the expert from one large bank trying to explain what happened to his prediction of a 58 cent Canadian dollar.

One just never knows. The top 6 Canadian banks forecast the rate for Q1 of 2017 from 1.30-1.37, or 0.73-0.77 reversed. They could all be way off.
