Good Grief! A hundred dollar fee for bringing your dog across the border? That's a new one on me. There's always the chance meeting of a border "official" who thinks he/she is hot sh---. Best move is back off, turn around, wait for another shift and try crossing again.

I've never had a problem, nor do I know anyone who has had a problem crossing the border with a dog, as long as you have current rabies document.

Make that a double Good Grief. We've taken our dog(s) across the border countless times without incident. Only a few times do they ask if they've had their shots or do we have their papers. Even then they don't normally look at the papers.

We've also taken our dog(s) to Europe, Turkey and Tunnesia without anything but the papers showing that they've had their shots.

I know what you mean about not wanting the dog to put in quarantine but it seems to me that maybe that likelihood is too minuscule to worry about. The only time we had a dog put in quarantine is flying, transferring planes in London. Once they didn't get her to our plane fast enough and she had to stay in London while we flew home. That was pretty traumatic but it didn't put her off flying as long as the answer to "chicken or beef" was "both".

I have travelled into the US many times with my Golden Doodle.
We were asked for her papers once.
It looked like the border official made an entry to the crossing data.
Have never been asked since.
I agree with Ron that there is no need to worry.
Have the vet certificate at the ready with a signed copy of the current year vaccination and you should be fine.

We do bring an envelope with Jasper's records which is not much other than his his current rabies shot, which is all that is required. He had not had a vaccination in over 9 years.

Walking across the Mexico border with him a few times in Los Algodones near Yuma was a breeze, as there rarely was anyone there, and back into the US they just waved us back through, no problem.
