Financing

Can anyone recommend a lender who is not afraid to make a loan to someone from the U.S. purchasing a trailer directly from a Canadian company (without going through an US dealer)??

Re: Financing

I gave up using banks over 25 years ago. I've been using Credit Unions ever since and am very happy with the service I've received. I'd recommend shopping Credit Unions local to you, they might be more flexible with their policies.

Re: Financing

You may run into a little difficulty as Escape isn't listed in NADA.. As Bruce said CU tend to be more lenient/easier to deal with.. You might be able to use the For Sale portion of the website for comparable pricing in terms of retaining value.

Anyway hope you can find a lender and if you do, post back here so others will know..

Re: Financing

My CU here in TX would not loan on a CAD vehicle either. Although I did not end up using them I believe that Wells Fargo would.

Re: Financing

Well, the crisis has been averted. Essex Credit corporation is more than happy to finance my purchase. WHEW!

Thanks for all the suggestions. Surprisingly, my local credit unions would either not loan or would only loan at outrageous interest rates. Go figure.

Re: Financing

Neither of the two credit unions I belong to will finance outside the U.S. They both suggested using a broker to get it in to the U.S. first and then they'll finance.

A broker is going to want their money up front, since Escape requires it up front, before bringing it in to the U.S. A catch 22.

Essex mentioned above is not too far from you. Might be worth a try.

Re: Financing

Colorockies,
I have been looking for a Lender and thought about Essex. I have been with credit unions that only allow you to pay ahead on a car loan 6 to 8 months. They call it a policy not a penalty. Not Very good if you want to pay a loan off very quick. Have you seen any type of policy like that in your Essex paperwork? Where they only allow you pay ahead so many months? Thanks.

Re: Financing

Hi: All... I guess I'm lucky to have a secure line of credit for all my big boy toys. Got 3 kids through college and university and several new cars plus a truck/trailer combo. Our Trust Co. rates are slightly above prime and float/sink with the economy. Trouble is you're no good to a lending institution if you don't OWE!!! Alf
