Illinois Buyers
I was wondering if anyone from Illinois would share their experiences obtaining title and license plates. I have searched but don't find anything specific to Illinois. If I missed something please point me in the right direction. I plan on contacting SOS but would like insite from someone who has went through it. I imagine it varies from State to State.
Thanks
Tim

It is no different than getting a title for a car or any other vehicle in your state, you go to the local department, give them your first born child and they mail you the title later....

Thanks for the laugh. That’s what it feels like sometimes. Then the next time you get a nice person who has 99% common sense and 0 % “I’m in charge here and my job is to make your life miserable.” In our county we drive about 20 miles to the courthouse and we’re in and out in minutes. Less than 5 minutes on the new Highlander this spring. Rita used to admonish me when I did not “watch” my son close enough. “Someone could grab him” she would say.
My answer “maybe they will but they’ll be bringing that little ______ back in about 5 minutes.” So the first born thing comes with caveats. Have a good day.

I figured since it is from another country it would require some additional paperwork.

Not really, you will have the needed paperwork from Escape, no different than buying a BMW or Mercedes made in Europe...

Hi: cpaharley2008... But better. Not as much upkeep required!!! I met a fellow who traded his Jag for a Benz. With inboard brakes on the rear of the Jag a reline was $5,000. Alf

We purchased our Escape last year and had no problem taking the ETI paperwork to our local DMV office and getting it registered and left with plates to take along for pickup. I remember reading someone in the Chicago area had their local DMV say they had to have the trailer here before getting licensed. You being downstate may have no problem but this process seems to vary. The only problem my local office had was in determining the U.S. dollar amount on which to calculate the sales tax. They had to call Springfield and it was decided to use the dollar conversion rate on the date our order was placed rather than when we actually paid and the actual U.S. dollars paid...not a biggie but it worked to Illinois' favor! Let me know if you have any other questions.

Tim, In addition to all the paperwork received from ETI, make an appointment, and bring your check-book. Sometimes you can buy your way out of your first born......

Well, that is certainly good news. I have never done it before and figured it would be a bit more complex.
So Tom, if I understand you correctly you were able to obtain plates before you picked up the trailer?
As far as my first born, she's 28, married and has three of her own so I kind of already gave her away. Do they take Son-In-Laws?
Also, today we took the Grandkids to the State Fair so I looked up the SOS booth and ran it by them. They said as long as I had the Manufactures Statement of Origin "MSO" there would be no problem. He didn't say anything about bringing any money. Are sure they want money?
