Import Tariffs

US Buyers Take Notice.

The incoming US administration is floating the idea of imposing "import tariffs" on foreign goods. If this comes to fruition it will certainly put a damper on Escape sales to the US. I would hate to see this happen. Details of the plan are sketchy at best. Buckle up, it's gonna be a wild ride.

Washington (CNN)President-elect Donald Trump's transition team is discussing a proposal to impose tariffs as high as 10% on imports, according to multiple sources.

No idea, just thought people should be aware as it could affect one's decision on buying an Escape.

Maybe that's a question that should have been asked and answered before the election ?

Radio discussion the other day on that topic indicated it could take a year or more to alter NAFTA agreement.
You also have something like 32 states with Canada as their largest trading partner. They will be objecting if they find US moves result in Canada potentially retaliating with tariffs on them.

I asked a lot of questions before and probably will continue.

I believe there is a 6 month notice of change required with NAFTA. The earliest a tariff could occur is around July 20th, 2017. That would mean a notice is sent on day 1. Don't see any changes occurring that quickly.

I am a proponent of "free trade". That's my personal opinion. I imagine there will be plenty more policies coming from this admin that I don't care for. I voted for the person with the "most" votes, and I am not talking about the electoral college. In any event it's just a trial balloon and with my Escape being due in 6 months, if what you heard on the radio is correct I am good.

The good news is the dollar might fall as low as 65 cent. At least that's what I picked up on the news yesterday. But yeah, all speculation. You lucky south border friends!!

Excuse me if I don't give a [moderator edit] who anyone votes for. Can a moderator close this useless thread which violates community rules?

I second Ross' motion. The no politics rules applies to everyone, so I was told over and over.

I haven't seen evidence of the community rules being broken so far. Just people discussing potential tariffs. Sorta like discussing exchange rate.
