I just started a new Progressive policy for the 21C and it’s about $350 for the USAA member rate. I got the middle level of coverage. I think a lot of it is by what state you’re in?

If you ask, "what did you pay for your house", you will get an answer, but you can't compare a two bedroom bungalow in west Texas with a four bedroom penthouse in New York.

The details matter.

I looked it up. Premium is $321. It covers "total loss replacement - purchase price", comprehensive, collision, Mexico coverage, "disappearing deductibles", vacation liability and roadside assistance.

Not included at the medium coverage level: scheduled personal effects, secured personal effects, pest damage, roof protection.

It’s a balance between having decent insurance coverage and our optimism that these things won't happen to us :-). If we had to replace it at 2025, 2027 prices, we'll just figure it out, not too worried.

My renewal with Progressive (through USAA) last September was for $288 for the year. Full replacement coverage w/$1000 deductible. I live in Oregon and keep my trailer at my house.

I think where you live has a large impact on your rates. I believe Florida has extremely high rates due to the large number of hurricane loss claims.

That’s a good point. In western Oregon we don't get much/any hurricanes, tornadoes, hail, blizzards or even lightning. People don’t believe me when I say we don’t even get many mosquitoes this side of the mountains. Our worst natural disaster would be a bad earthquake, so it's kind of all or nothing in the PNW.

No-Fault insurance is probably the largest driver of higher premiums in FLA. Hard to believe they haven't repealed that yet. From Forbes:

"The Sunshine State first adopted no-fault car insurance in the 1970s, dropped it on a technicality in 2007 and immediately reenacted it. When fraud persisted—aided by lawyers, doctors and auto glass contractors—Florida became one of the least affordable states for car insurance. Jun 14, 2021
