Mike,
You may want to update your avatar to show year and Escape model you now own.

Jim, speaking of avatars, didn't know that you moved to Chilliwack.

Nothing changed with the site security - it was an update of your browser software that now indicates when the web page is HTTP (not secure) rather than HTTPS.

Again, the site didn't change.

But now Facebook appears secure, so why not this forum? If they can do it, certainly it is available.

That's why my location is "Ventura County", so you can find me in 1850 sq.mi. of land mass.....

I don't understand your definition of secure. Is it when only you can read your profile and posts?

Non members can read. They can't post.
If non members couldn't read the forum, there would be nobody here.

The "Not Secure" message in the browser's URL box is something Google started doing in Chrome last year. It indicates that the website does not have SSL encryption - something that encrypts data when you access the website that is supposed to make it harder to intercept that data, steal your info, etc. Most large commercial websites use SSL encryption, many smaller and individual websites do not - it costs extra through the web hosting service and a lot of small or free websites have not done that. It has no effect on features on the forum like who can see or make posts, see photos or attachments, etc. - those features are controlled by the forum.

Here's a short explanation of what SSL security does from GoDaddy, one of the big web hosting companies for small websites:

An SSL (Secure Sockets Layer) certificate is a digital certificate that authenticates the identity of a website and encrypts information sent to the server using SSL technology. Encryption is the process of scrambling data into an undecipherable format that can only be returned to a readable format with the proper decryption key.

A certificate serves as an electronic "passport" that establishes an online entity's credentials when doing business on the Web. When an Internet user attempts to send confidential information to a Web server, the user's browser accesses the server's digital certificate and establishes a secure connection.

An SSL certificate contains the following information:

The certificate holder's name
The certificate's serial number and expiration date
A copy of the certificate holder's public key
The digital signature of the certificate-issuing authority

Mike,
your avatar is the incorrect info under your name, go to "user cp" and you can correct it.
