WANTED: Fridge Door for 2014 17B

Looking for a fridge door for my 2014 Escape 17b. It has the standard fridge (not the upgrade). The door fell off on my drive home from purchasing the trailer and broke the door at the hinge . I have tried a number of fixes, but none have really worked. I thought I would try the forum before ordering a brand new one.

I live in BC.

Thanks.

And, what is the model number? You'll find that inside the fridge.

Don't know exactly where you are, but there is an authorized Dometic service centre in Cranbrook. May just need a hinge.

Good idea

I'll post some in the appropriate forum. Basically the fridge door (plastic) at the top where the pin goes in broke, and the bottom of the door where the other pin goes in cracked.

ETI gave me a quote from the manufacturer...$350 eeesh. And that was last year when our dollar was strong, it may be more now.

The door on our 4.0 cu in fridge from 2015 also fell off. We were still under warranty so Dometic took care of it. Very poor design. As I recall, there is a firm that makes retrofit hinges for Dometic doors. Ask Google.

Hmmm, I assume there is only a 1 yr warranty.

I got a quote at RV Lifestyles in Quartzsite of $400.00 installed for a 5.0 cu ft RM 2510 door. All it needed is a new gasket, but the gasket is not a replacement item...

The Casita 17' is having major issues with breaking doors on the Dometics to the point Larry Gamble has a fix in his shop... Little House Customs.

Donna do you know if that part would go on our 8551 series 8 . I remember back then there was a discussion about our series 8 doors but I don't remember if it works . Would be a preventive solution if it did . Pat

If I remember Pat, those won't work on the 8 series, just the Americana type fridges typically used in a Casita. I think the hinge design is different.

Thanks Robert . Maybe see if can fabricate one . Never had door fall open but it seems to loosen up top or bottom . Need to take a better look at it . I ordered the Sam -1upgrade should be here by Tues . Had some points and used from Amazon . I will have to search your instalation for help and idea's . Last camping trip realize the original is not working very great . It was cold and needed to do more cooking inside . I remember in our little motorhome the fan was similar . Squirrel cage , quiet and could open and close from inside . So will be installing Sam-1 in the trailer . Pat

It would help if you started your own thread on the 8551.

You'll love the SAM-1 Pat. Pretty easy to install, but there are two hiccups to be aware of. The Heng hoods are spot welded so you'll need a spot weld removing bit to drill those out and remove the tin box fan. And second, you will need to cut a little less than an inch off the air outlet on the backside of the new fan, so it won't hit the exterior vent. It's designed for standard thickness RV walls, not the thin shell of a fiberglass trailer. Feel free to message me if you have any questions.

As for the fridge door, I've seen several forum members just add a bracket on the wall on either side of the door, and attach a strap when towing. Holds the door firmly in place and prevents both accidental opening and hinge damage.
