The nice thing about a 17A is that with out the bathroom taking up so much space in an already small space, you have about the same useable space as a 19 without the extra tow weight. I made the choice for my trailer that I would rather have a permanent full / queen bed ( kinda in between) and a permanent table and was willing to sacrifice and the area that I typically only use for about 10 minutes a day. Oh, I respect those who couldn't live without a proper bathroom - no criticism there ... but there are options available.

The 17A is a very nice design. Much depends on how you like to camp and where.

We totally concur with Tom's assessment. Our 17A follows us into the smallest of Forest Service campgrounds, close to or even right next to our favorite fishing spots. When we're done with the day's activities, my old weary back needs that queen bed with the thick mattress. And, for us (like Tom), the dinette is up and available all the time. Nice!
(Plus: you get to join the "A-Listers")

Hi Don,
As a fellow "A" Lister, I expect we'll get contracts soon to star in the new feature film called "Full Moon Over Fallen Log".

Does it have a Queen size bed? I thought it was only 52 inches wide.

No, not a true queen, but pretty close at 52x77. 8 inches narrower and 3 inches shorter. And another great thing about the 17A is that when the dinette is made into a bed, you have TWO large beds of the same size.

We love our 19 for lots of reasons, like the queen bed, the dinette and the wet bath, but the 17A is a nice layout.

Tom; Well, that's an interesting thought. The other night at a friend of ours' house, I got to talking with her son, who is an Alaskan bush pilot. He told us about the reality behind the reality show that spent some time filming them. Suffice to say that 90% of the drama is scripted, and dialogue to a considerable degree as well. No one there is giving up their dream job for "stardom".
I'm just happy to be part of the Escape A-Listers.

Back to the thread: regarding the "almost" queen bed: it is quite comfy for two, and the 8" thick mattress is a wonderful thing on my back. Queen-size sheets fit easily with no twisting of the old back.

Well .... Don .... not only are we "A" Listers ..... we are "Classic A Listers"! There are others too who belong to our exclusive club.

Tom

Over all, I find that I am very pleased with my 17A. When I bought it, I thought that I would do more remote boon docking but in reality, I find I'm frequently camping in areas with facilities so its a non issue being bathroomless. Probably when I can fully retire, I'll have more time for remote boon docking.

For now, I appreciate the extra room and lighter weight. On my last trip I was noticing a sluggishness to my tow vehicle (full water and at least 1/2 full gray) so I have put my trailer on a diet. I'm surprised at how many things I have removed that now after using my trailer, I likely will never use or need. I suspect that weight reduction will be a continuing process - and this relates to another recent thread here. Tongue weight. I'm also shifting things around trying to keep my target tongue weight at 11% of trailer weight.

To get the same amount of room that I have with my 17A, I'd need to move up to a 19 and perhaps want a more powerful tug ... on and on. I feel like, for me, I have hit a "sweet spot" and I'm happy.

Tom
