12V/USB under cabinet instead of face

I would email Joldie at escape and ask, but it's the weekend! Does anyone know if it is possible for ETI to add a 12V/USB outlet on the bottom of a cabinet, instead of on the face?

Can you describe the cabinet in question?

The cabinet above the bed, in the 21.

I was told no when I asked last year, but that shouldn’t keep you from asking. Maybe it’s changed.

I’m going to take a guess here and say they probably won’t do it. The cabinet bottoms are two layers with an airspace in between and it will be tough to catch framing on both sides of the outlet unless the bottom was custom made. If they say no maybe ask for just a 12V drop and install something yourself. I’m sure you could figure out a way to make something work.

When I retrofitted the combo 12V/USB outlets for the standard outlets I needed to cut holes strategically in the paneling to catch a piece of the framing on one side and I put a small backing block on the other side. Screws just into the thin paneling will eventually work loose.

I asked to have one installed on the underside of cabinets in the past on every one of my 4 Escapes, Reace always said no because you lose the use of the cabinet due to the wiring and 12v outlet extending into the space. Originally even the 12v outlets mounted on the vertical cabinets had open backs which caused issues. Later they started placing a panel over the area of those to prevent shorts. But you could always do a surface mount after taking delivery, if need be, just ask for a 12v wire run to the area.

I installed a 12V power point above the aft bed in our 17B. It's in the corner. I put a double USB in it to charge a phone and iPad while in bed. It is inside the corner so unused space any way. It's close to the end of the blind so it's not visible looking into the trailer from the galley.

I added a second one on the other side of the bed in the cabinet between the counter top extension and outside wall.

Both are wired for 15A fuses direct back to the shunt for the battery monitor at the back of the trailer.

In my 21, I brought the 12V power up from underneath the bed by tucking it in behind the padded corner on the front drivers side to the shelf over the bed, then mounted a multiple USB port on top of the shelf with VHB tape. Also ran the video and power cables up to the wireless rear view camera transmitter and mounted it there. That padded corner is only held on by a couple of screws so it's easy to loosen - even with the shelf.
