9200 BTU Polar Cub AC/Honda 2000w generator

Hi All,
Has any member with this AC unit had experience with the Honda 2000w generator? We are considering taking the last available unit over the 11000 unit to assure that a 2000w generator can start/run it.

I have run our 9200 polar cub ac with a Honda 2000 converted and running on propane. It worked just fine. I opted for the polar cub for our 19, like it a lot.

I just looked at the honda. what is nice is if you need 4000W you can puchase the companion generator and couple them together. A friend of mine has one to run his air conditioner and tells me it great. Very, very quiet. Im sold on the honda. About $999.00 here in michigan.

dave, how did you do the conversion to propane?

The generator was purchased new with the conversion done. I have seen kits you can buy to covert a used generator. It works great off the quick disconnect gas line escape installed.

The only problem with a generator hooked the quick connect of the trailer is it will be very close to the trailer and making noise !!! boo to noisy generators

You can get a very long propane line.

I agree. I have three-metre (ten-foot ) and 6m (20') extension hoses of various types - they are not very big coiled up, so this is quite practical.

i looked online at the honda engine set up with propane and it has the regulator on the side of the engine. will this work with the quick connect being a low pressure connection?

Yes, that could be an issue, depending on the pressures involved. The kit illustration shows one regulator on the propane tank, and a separate second-stage regulator which mounts on the engine. If the pressure between the two is higher than the standard RV low pressure (11" water column) then I would not expect the second regulator to work properly.

I use a tee to tap full tank pressure at the tanks, not an outlet on the trailer's low-pressure system, to supply an outside barbecue. That would work for the generator as well.

As I said in the previous post, it works well off the gas line supplied by escape. The website for the generator shows a propane tank with a pressure regulator connecting to the modified generator. Again it worked for me. If in doubt call the generator folks, bet they would know.

I missed that... so it it does work, and thus the pressure between the two regulators matches the low pressure of the RV system.

Yes, but that regulator at the tank could be set for any pressure, which is why the caution. Irrelevant now, since I realize that Dave already reported that the regulator on the generator works with RV low pressure.

Curious if anyone has mounted the generator on the tongue of a 21 since without the giant storage box there is a 14 inch gap.
