Battery post connector

I recently stopped for the night in the Guadalupe NP where there are no hookups only to discover I had absolutely no power. Upon checking my batteries I discovered one of the connectors had broken off. Fortunately a kind camper helped me attach a new connector. I want to replace all of the connectors before I have this happen again. Question: what type of connector (and size) should I use? For the recent broken one I happen to have an all copper connector, but I couldn’t crimp it well enough to keep it on (the kind camper managed to). Thanks in advance.

I’ve used a T&B hand crimpers , a Burndy Hy Press and an Anderson hydraulic crimper
All work well on crimp on wire terminals
The size of the terminal is based on the conductor size and the stud size

If you don't have (or want to use) crimpers which can handle the largest cable in the trailer, there are compression type terminals which are tightened with a wrench, much like a compression plumbing fitting.
Quick Cable Compression Connectors
They are available (under this and other brands) from industrial suppliers, some automotive audio equipment suppliers (some of those guys use lots of current), and of course from various sources online.

I like the idea of the compression connectors, but I can't seem to find anywhere to purchase them in a 10 gauge wire size. Any ideas??

Just buy some 3M Stakons / terminals . They are available for AWG wire sizes #22 to #10 and at most automotive or home improvement stores .
Then all you need is a hand indenter crimper ( T&B , Klein , Ideal )
The terminals / lugs Brian referenced are not UL listed so we were not allowed to use them on the job but they do work .

I bought one of these off eBay for $31. It works great, the only problem is that the crimp lugs are metric and you need a conversion chart for SAE wire size.

I've only seen the compression connectors in larger gauge, such as for the cables used for the inverter. Hand-crimping is much easier for the little 10 gauge, than for the larger sizes, so I don't think there's a market for the compression type in smaller sizes.

I would visit a local "battery guy" when you get to a decent sized town (like El Paso) and have him replace the terminals (maybe the wires?) and crimp them correctly with the good heat shrink terminals.

I just had my local "battery guy" build me new battery cables for my truck out of 2 gauge welding wire. They are very nice and a big improvement. Cheap money well spent.
