I added my own quick connect right at the propane source, safe inside the tank shroud. But what I need is another rubber cap for the opening. My black one quickly broke. The blue and yellow ones shown look considerably more beefy, but I have not found them in any store. Any sources ?

Excellent - thanks. It looks like they have improved the sign (from "no" to "not this door").
Did you get a hose custom-made? That's the part that I haven't found anyone willing to do in recent years. Parts - and even assembly of them - are not so much of an issue.
