For highs, we are having around 40F this week and 33F for New Year's Eve in Texas, with lows around freezing. Meanwhile there will be some low temperatures in Iowa below 0 degrees F, and -10 is expected for the 31st. And some snow. I won't miss being up there!

We went south in the Winter for the first four years after we retired .
Humidity and temperature were only two small factors in our decision to end our yearly voyage.
If your not enthralled with the destination then why make the journey.
When we traveled to Oregon , it was well worth the 1800 mile drive.
Oregon was even better then we imagined .

Humidity in Florida has little to do with people going to Arizona instead. Most people take the shortest route south, and starting around mid October, humidity here is not an issue. It has been very pleasant here for several weeks now, and will stay this way until around mid May. We get more than our fair share of snowbirds. I had to wear a light jacket this morning as the temp was 50°, but it is 73° now. I can’t say I miss the mess of firewood, having to climb up on the roof in January to sweep the chimney, chipping ice off the windshield, listening to the expensive automotive products corroding from road salt, or slipping and falling on my butt. I’m happy for the people who enjoy that weather, but as far as I am concerned if I go north for the “hot” months and spend the winter in Florida, I am living in the “endless summer.” But my attitude is that hot is uncomfortable, but cold is painful. And I lived in the cold regions for a good part of my life.

We like to go up to North Carolina around Franklin in the summer. It's warm but to us quite comfortable. They like to call Floridians half backs there . I guess for those who came down from up north and make it half way back during the summers. I guess I would be a half up.

Kevin, another campfire hint is to buy one of those silver folding windshield screens. Open it up and put it lengthsize on your chair from under your legs up past your back. It not only protects your backside, but it reflects the warmth of the fire around you. They often have them at the dollar store or target, etc.

Yea. If it were Centigrade that would be Florida in the summer!

Speaking of cold weather, it's been far colder here lately in San Antonio compared to the average. They are forecasting a low of around 15F New Years Eve as well. Last New Years Eve we went to an outdoor concert and it was a seasonal mid 60s for comparison. I know 15F sounds like a normal day for many of you, but for us it's downright frigid, and will probably break the record.

Record cold here this am, -6F.

Will start getting ready to head south soon, cleared off the snow on the trailer yesterday finding a 1/4" of ice underneath. Solar shows .5Ah with the low sun through the tree branches and the ice. Supposed to get into the 20's next week, will wait till then to pull the trailer out to the driveway. Too cold to load it up although we are itching to do so.

Way too cold for me to try camping.

Quote from a weather website...
Eric

From 7 p.m. on Dec. 24 to 7 p.m. Dec. 26, Erie had received 60.5 inches of snow, which shattered numerous records for the city. Nearly all of this snow fell on Monday and Tuesday.

“This is now the biggest two-day snow total on record for Pennsylvania, besting the old record of 44 inches, which was set in Morgantown from March 20-21, 1958,” AccuWeather Meteorologist Bill Deger said.

Jim , I guess we are fortunate , we woke up this morning to 25 below zero but luckily at those temps you seldom get any appreciable amounts of snow . Later this week we are expected to get a warmup ( Above Zero) and snow is predicted.
We are about a foot behind in average yearly snowfall so we need the snow . Spring planting is not that far off and ground moisture is low.

Another “perspective” moment. If faced with those temperatures and upcoming episodes of white manure to relocate with a shovel or a blower, I would say that spring planting was a long way off.

Actually we are only about 4 weeks away from our annual
" January Thaw " . Temps climb into the 30's the roads melt off and you can walk around outside without a jacket or coat . Then in another 8 weeks the best / worst of winter is over . By Memorial Day it has warmed up a little and it's time to plant your garden.
( Never plant tomatoes , melons or peppers before Memorial Day)
Then all of a sudden it's the 4th of July and swimming season opens .
You can make anything fun if you have the right attitude and try.
I am sure you have similar coping methods to get through the 11 months of Florida's summer.

Steve: Why does your profile now say Washington, D.C.? Awfully confusing for members when reading your posts about sub-zero weather.
