Defrosting the two-door RMD8555 refrigerator
This is going to seem like a silly question to some. I recently acquired the two-door Dometic RMD8555 refrigerator. It has two compartments and two sets of fins in the back. Do I need to defrost the fridge when the fins in the freezer compartment are frosted up, but not the fins in the refrigerator compartment? The manual isn't clear on this, and I don't know any better.
thanks,

no, the frost causes inefficiency, so only if you have frost.

In retrospect it appears that my frosting problem was caused by having the freezer door in "storage" mode, where it can crack open, instead of the normal mode. I think I've fixed that now, so hopefully the cooling fins won't frost up again. I actually have no idea.

That's the second time that someone has mentioned that one of their fridge doors was in storage mode. That's weird because on my 2 door, sliding the little lever forward to put the latch in storage mode is really hard to do. The slide is hard to move. Can't see how that could be done by accident. Maybe others is different?

My freezer compartment appeared to be in storage mode from when it was installed, though I might be mistaken. And I'm not sure how I "fixed" it, either. I'm not going to mess with it anymore.

Ok, that might explain it Mike. The little lever just slides forward and back, but it's very stiff and you usually have to press it down a bit and jiggle it before it will slide. Perhaps it was in that position when you took delivery.
