For those following the saga -- we now realize the pump is also leaking whenever it goes on. Reace is sending a new one to see if that does the trick.

Here's how the story ends ...

The pump was indeed a lemon. Not only did it run intermittently but eventually, it also started leaking. Reace had a new pump sent and we had to take it in for the swap. So far, so good, though we have yet to really put it to the test yet. Soon, hopefully.
