Good friends of ours used to own a 23' motorhome that had electric only water heater. Their whole unit relied on either being connected to the grid or running their genset. It was a pain travelling with them, as we had to give up lots of great campgrounds with no services at the site, in favour of full hookup sites.
After having to run it at our land a few times, and catching grief from my brothers and friends, they went and bought a new 25' motorhome, and spec'd everything out so they could easily boondock with it, including 200W of solar charging. We like them even more now.
