How do I open LED light fixtures in 2016 19?
New owner here. The LED bulbs are far too bright in the trailer. I decided to change them out or try and tone them down a bit with parchment paper or something similar. Problem is I cannot determine how to open the fixtures. It appears from the notches they pry off the base, but there's so much resistance I'm afraid I will break something.

My fixtures must be different. The lens definitely does not slide off.

Hi: Kingfish... You need to squeeze the lens with thumb and finger tips while sliding it towards you. There is a key way that the tabs fit into till you slide it forward. Once off you need a fine Phillips screw driver to remove the plate of LED's if that's your goal or line the lens with some defuser type material and reverse the process. Pancake style RV light fixtures. Alf

It seems Escape has started using new type of lights which most of us have not seen nor used. Have you called the factory?

The fixture has what looks like two screwdriver slots on each side. But instead of a screwdriver, you need a hook tool. Hook it into the slot and pull the shell out to the side (away from the lens). Pull it slowly, it doesn't need much to disconnect.

in the pic are we looking under the ceiling cabinet?
if so is the wiring for it in the cabinet it is attached to and accessible?
Not exactly sure what's in the fixture circuit and therefore can't guarantee it will work, but for a few bucks you might try something like this to dim it.
Just wire it in series 2 wires +12v and 12v neg...
Ebay search "12v Wire RF Wireless Remote Switch Controller Dimmer for Mini Led Strip Light"
eBay item number:222107708951
you can also buy more qty for a few bucks more on Ebay
Not sure if all the led fixtures are wired on the same 12v drop or different 12v drops (most flexible wiring), but being able to dim them is one of the 1st mods being planned by this camper if they don't already dim.

Looking at the picture, it would appear to me that the lens would need to be "squeezed" inward along the long edges and then pulled straight out. But it would seem a quick call to ETI would produce the correct answer.

Yep!! This works. Just have to fashion a hook tool from small screw driver.

"pull the shell out" is the shell the translucent piece or the solid white piece? Thanks.

The entire shell can be removed by inserting a hooked screwdriver into each of the four notches on the side. Carefully and gently pull outward first to unfasten and then downward to remove at each location.
However!! The translucent lens actually can be removed by itself. It would be best to remove a complete shell first to ascertain how best to do it without breaking anything. You will need to insert a thin screwdriver between the lens and the shell body at the tab points and push inward to pop the lens out.
FWIW I put 5 layers of parchment paper in the light before subduing it enough for my satisfaction.

Don't forget that theatrical frosts can do the same thing with less chance of fire, and many different colors & amounts of dimming.
How to get a swatch book, or, if you see me on the road, I carry one...
