Jack Antenna No Power
Last night we tried to turn on the Jack Antenna (black button on the coax face plate) but it would not power up.
I seem to recall a recent discussion with a similar issue but I can't find it.
Any suggestions?
As a side note, yesterday I tried inserting a Scosche 12V USB adapter into the 12V socket adjacent to the coax receptacle. Within about 30 seconds I smelled burning plastic and realized the USB plug was probably the cause. It was. Removed it. No idea why the 12V socket would burn up the adapter, but maybe the two problems are related?

File this one under "hey stupid, check the fuses before posting." It was just a blown 15A fuse. I'm thinking the insertion of the USB adapter yesterday blew the fuse.

I’m sure Robert has seen this before as well. As an IT contractor I’ve had calls from clients that their PC is totally dead when they come in to work. They have tried everything and it’s still dead. I’ve learned to ask if they checked to make sure its plugged in. Bingo, problem solved.

Not sure why, but so many times we miss the obvious.
I gotta head out, now where are those keys?
D'oh, in my hand.
(seriously, who here can honestly say they have not done this, or at least something similar?)

My glasses. Always my glasses. But if I can't see how can I find them? I've gotten to the point I put the arm down the neck hole of my shirt. At least now I can feel them with my hands rather than my eyes!

Now to figure out why this blew the fuse. It should have worked fine.

It was made in Oxnard!
(Local joke, but there's a reason why people say "true that!" instead of laugh.)
Edit: Actually, to be fair, Scosche makes some pretty good products. And, I've done inspections there and their house is straight.)

I really doubt the Scosche adapter was the cause. I have several and I swear by them. I don't use those cheap adapters you see at the convenience store or truck stop check out lanes. Worthless. I've never had a single issue with these. So, what would cause the fuse to blow, and if it blew, why did I wind up with a scorched and discolored adapter and the smell of burnt plastic? Hmm.

if the scoche adapter melted down, that means it got too hot. if it blew the fuse that means it was drawing way too much current.
one of those USB adapters shouldn't use more than 10 watts per high powered USB device plugged into it (5V at 2A each) or 2.5 watts max for 'regular' USB 1.1 kind of devices. 2*10 is 20 watts which is less than 2 amps at 12V

Well yes, I know it got too hot. Question is why. It had nothing plugged into it either, so the question is how did it draw so much current that it blew the 15A fuse. This particular adapter has dual 2.4A rapid charge plugs, so max watts should be 12, charging two rapid charge devices simultaneously. Works great in the tow vehicle.

Robert is there any chance something in it that failed momentarily and caused a direct short or there was something conductive in the socket that would have shorted?
Cheers

No idea Doug. I'd never used that 12V outlet before. It's the one by the TV connection and is supposed to be used for the TV 12V power supply, but my TV is using a 110AC outlet. After I pulled the fried adapter, the socket looked fine.
