Leaking Kitchen Sink drain

We have discovered a leaking kitchen sink drain fitting in our 2019 E21. The fitting appears to be leaking between the ribbed part of the fitting and the part below it as seen in the attached photo. I cannot tell if it is possible to put channel locks on the ribbed fitting and tighten it further or if the drain line has to be taken apart or cut apart to tighten that fitting. Photo of the offending, leaking part is attached.

Why would that fitting leak, the water is running inside, and there should not be water coming up from the bottom, so I'm confused why water would come out where the pipe is yellow/green?
The is a p trap below that but that should not make the water remain that high before it empties? Or is the water leaking around the bottom ring? Any evidence below this compartment?

Jim, I have learned there is a seal inside the drain pipe immediatly below the ribbed part of the fitting. It is likely the seal was kinked or improperly installed and is leaking. I am going to try to find an abs pipe fitting seal in a big box store somewhere (we are traveling now, naturally) so when I get a chance to repair it, I will have the new seal in hand. In the meantime, we will keep a bucket under the p trap in the lower cabinet as the water comes out the fitting, runs down the pipe and drips into the bucket.

I wouldn't put up with that for very long - there are better ways to do the sink plumbing.
