Nah, I believe it to be all related, and relevant myself.

I thought the blue hose line is my "low point drain". If not, what's draining?

Looks just like the one on our 17B.

Looks like the cold fresh water line. Definitely not gray water. Our new 21 doesn't have a low drain - I asked about it on pick up. Does have the fresh tank petcock, though.

My understanding is that Reace stopped the low point drain as a standard item after they found out that the new type of toilet valve did not drain properly using only the low point drain. I wonder if they are an option now? I would always want one.

I know that Ten Forward doesn't have a low point drain. I've always winterized my Scamp according to best practices. I'm willing to do the same for my wonderful 5er. Yep, easy stuff is GRAND, but this is my asset. I can take care of it. My asset bucks, my issues. And really.. we're talking minutes... not days to protect our investment. YMMV

Donna, I agree, but I also think a low point drain would always be handy.

A low point drain is also a quick way to drain the lines if you feel you have a leak "somewhere" or pump issue on the road!

I am fortunate to have a nice compressor in the garage but many people don't. And I don't carry one on the road.

In our climate there are years I simply used the low point drain and wait to see how cold it gets. The toilet would be warm and cozy in the cabin.

I use the low-point drain and then pump RV anti-freeze through the city water inlet. It's reassuring to then open the low-point a bit and see pink.

I was miffed that he would say this since we use the low-point drain and had a cracked toilet valve. Hubby said that he believes people thought they could just use the low-point and then put anti-freeze into the traps --- which is exactly what we had done when the toilet valve cracked.

We were told by the RV place that we have to pump the anti-freeze through the lines from city water inlet to cover that toilet valve. So that is what we do now. And I had advised Reace and Tammy of this and they had also heard from others, I believe, who had cracked toilet valves. The low-point drain has nothing to do with it that we see. Instructions were simply incorrect and should have said to pump anti-freeze through from city water inlet.

Yes, I am for having a low-point drain as an option, too. Should not have to pay for it though.

We did not even think of opening the low-point drain to find pink but will now. Good idea.

The issue was that Thetford changed the valve on the toilet to make it quieter. Problem is, they didn't tell anybody and that the change resulted in water being trapped in the valve, which could freeze.
The low-point drain method didn't work anymore.
Also, there was no way to tell which Thetford toilets had the new valve.

I just leave the bathroom door open when it's cold. Keeps the valve from freezing and wifey's posterior, too..........

We understand Charlie, but you are also a new ETI build owner... haven't gone through months (or days or weeks) of freezing temps in the Willamette Valley.

Solutions? Other than heading South or following the standard winterizing things that need to be done....

Donna, I've owner campers/trailers for 30 years and used to camp all weekend at Mt Bachelor (ski resort) and Crystal Mountain (WA) parking lots while skiing. Never had a water line split as long as the cabinet doors remained open. Nor a broken tank. Did have to boil water to pour and unfreeze the stablizers from the parking lot, though.......

Understood Charlie... I've overnighted at Mt. Hood in the parking lot in a moho (before Mt. Hood Meadows existed).. back in the 1960s.

I think folks are asking about "storage," not using during freezing temps where leaving cabinet doors open and the furance on works. But I've known to be wrong...
