New LP Regulator.

Thought I had a propane leak. RV tech at SKP park in Casa Grande could not find. When setting propane pressure at regulator, said at max adjustment, pressure still lower than should be. Suggested it is borderline OK this way, or I could get a new regulator. I opted for a new regulator.

Seems like fridge on LP temps are better and more consistent (could be cooler weather) and stove lights less reluctantly. Used to light a few segments and then the flame would work its way around the burner. Now it just lights. Smell gone too, smell must have been something else.

My regulator failed on the trip home from factory and was full of water. ETI sent me a new one that was a different kind with the round indicator on the top. Working great ever since.

Suitable pressure of the propane supply is absolutely essential to proper operation, which is why it is remarkable that almost none of have a manometer to directly check it. I checked the price of the common manometer kit (sold by RV parts stores), and found it was something like Cdn$180... so now I know why we don't have them!

The vent on a propane regulator should ideally just let air in and out to the non-propane side of a diaphragm, to provide a reference for pressure control. It seems that when regulators have problems they can vent propane, or sometimes just liquid contaminants from the propane. This may have been the source of the smell.
