I finally gave up and just bought a new unit from Amazon. Problem solved. Just make sure you order the correct part number. The one I ordered also came in both brown and black.

I planned to "bite the bullet" and order a new detector. I went through this same process on my 19, there I discovered the unit had passed the born on date.

With my 21 I took out the propane detector screws out to check the born on date. Not so easy, the wire lead is so short I could not get the unit out to turn it over. Looking further I see the wire is fastened every four inches with a screw and plastic clip. I think I will have to remove the batteries and battery box to get at the screws to get enough slack. Perhaps cutting the plastic clips, not very elegant.

Anyone replaced a propane detector on a 21 with the dual six batteries in a side by side battery box?

Just FYI, the unit is good for five years from the date it is installed, not from the sticker date. I recently changed mine and the RV shop called the distributor to obtain this information, since the sticker date on the new one was already six months old at time of purchase.

Just be aware, I got mine replaced under warranty, and within 6 months the new one was doing the same thing. Vacuuming and airing out makes it functiin properly for a couple of weeks but then it starts doing the same thing. So replacement is not mecessarily the solution.

There's gotta be somethings else going on here Carl. No idea what that is-- maybe a bad production run with faulty detectors? Or could it be something unique to where it's placed in the 21 vs other sizes that makes it more susceptible to alarming? Again, no idea. Ours has worked perfectly and we've never cleaned it or vacuumed it.

When our 21 was about a year old we had repeated alarms for no reason.
When I contacted Escape, I was told there were quite a few of the units having problems and to contact the manufacturer directly. They offered to send a replacement while we were traveling, but I just got them to send one to me when we got home and installed in the battery box area with the two 6's. No charge, and no alarms over the last many months and many days in the trailer. Pretty simple to do, just two wires, once you get access.
Quick disconnects that someone else did, was a good idea.

I still wonder about fumes from the batteries setting it off.

Exactly my thought, Bob. The manufacturer told me minute concentrations of hydrogen could set it off when I specifically asked about hydrogen.

propane detector

On this last trip ours went off and scared the dog that was laying near by, I blamed him. The next time Nancy noticed the golf cart just outside and remembered that one was there the first time also. I cut the ground wire to the unit and I'll think about what else to do, it's a 2013 trailer.

It started beeping yesterday morning and again this morning. I turned on the fan on the ac and a little fan sitting on the floor pointed at it. So far it has not beeped anymore. It is very hot here right now and it will be for four more months. May just need to keep the air flowing around in there.

Is there a fuse I could pull to stop till? I did not see it listed on the panel.
