Refer Question

After lurking here for the last year plus, its hard not to notice the frustration with various refer models. Sorry folks!

I haven't noticed, however, any negative posts for the 3.0 cu/ft. that is standard on the 17. Could it be that this model
1)functions perfectly
2) Is so small that everyone optioned for the 4.3 cu/ft. and nobody has one
3) 3.0 cu/ft. owners only eat canned food
4) Other

I kept the 3.0 cu/ft. on my build list because of the problems with the larger models and am expecting to carry an ice box. So how is it 3.0 owners ..... has it been working OK?

I have 5 cu. ft. fridge, so I don't know why a 4.3 would have issues.

I was thinking that owners of the 4.3 were complaining about not getting cold enough .... could be mistaken about that size. I'm not familiar with the 5.0 .... is that size still available? Believe you are happy with yours?

Glenn the older frig really did work a lot better . I had one . Now we get a fancy blue light and a frig that doesn't perform . The 4.3 is a newer model . I have this one . I am getting a few lower degrees temp with my mods to it I made . But it still is not as good as my older frig . Pat

Tom,
I arrived at a similar list.
A)functions perfectly because it's so small, and the mechanical system is the same one as for the larger frigs.
B)The door doesn't stay open long, because there are so few things in the frig. that there's no pause for decision-making.
C)3.0 cu.ft. owners are real old-school campers who hunt or catch their meals, and so, eat fresh every day.

Also the 4.3 was the standard frig for the 19ft . I remembered asked at factory about the 5 cu and was told no longer offered . Pat

I only pointed out my 5 cu. ft. because that would negate the issue of size as the problem.
Anyway, about to go out and put it on propane and hook up the generator, as soon as there is a pause in the monsoon.
More than 300,000 homes without power here after winds this morning and afternoon.

Starvinghyena, I have the 3.0 and I have no complaints. The manual says that temps will vary by location, with the door warmer than the interior and the top shelf of the door the warmest. In my fridge that means 37F (lower interior shelf) to 42F (top door shelf) at a setting of 3/5. The freezer works so well that I never measured the temp.

No difference propane v. 110 volt; I never tried 12volt. While towing with propane on the temp rises 3-4 degrees.

No offense taken Glenn . But since this is my 3rd Dometic this newer frig is a little lacking in performance . It is a shame a lot of us have to figure out how to get more performance out of these frig's . My biggest bitch is removing my freezer . But I think I can put it back in winter camping . I am getting better numbers now though so I quess I go sit down and be quiet . Very windy here on Whidbey today with loss power and trees down also . Pat

No offense taken.
My biggest issue with the fridge is my wife holding the door open while she decides what dressing she wants for her salad.
My beer goes in the bottom right and I load it up before going to bed so the fridge has all night to recover.

I really don't mean to stir up the hornet's nest. Just curious about why no 3.0's have been having trouble keeping cold ..... or perhaps more accurately, no ones speaking up.


Thankful I may not have to eat nothing but canned food after all!

Tom, the answer is probably several things, but here's my take:

The 3.O CF is not an 8 series. It's an RM25xx probably, and they are designed to work well in warmer temps - unlike the SN rated 8 series. Also, generally speaking, the smaller the interior volume, the easier it is to cool.
