If I try to interpret John's findings in layman's terms, it sounds like the separate freezer compartment (model DM2663LBX) has an auto-defrost to prevent ice build-up during humid summer months. Thus far, comments in this and other related threads have been about temperature fluctuation in the refrigerator compartment. Anyone seen unexpected temperature fluctuations in the freezer compartment? And from John's findings, I'm still not sure what role the refrigerator door switch plays in any of this, if I've interpreted correctly. Sounds like it is all programmed through some digital control unit somewhere in the fridge's electronics. Still curious....

for completeness, the maintenance settings for the AES units
like a rm8xxx unit.

Service Mode AES
The Service Mode is activated by keeping pressed down the temperature button
and switching on the main button.
After this the 7-Segment-Display shows „1“. By pushing the temperature button,
the different test-steps can be activated:
1 = activates 230 V heating element (230V must be available)
2 = activates 230V relay (230V has not to be necessarily available)
3 = activates 12 V heating element (D+ and 12V supply has to be available)
4 = Intern test step (is not indicated)
5 = activates burner control device – output (Gas operation)
6 = activates frame heating
7 = activates interior lights (Except for electrical lock)
8 = Intern test step (is not indicated)
9 = Recognizing electrical lock or reed switch
10 = activates all 7 segment-components one after the other
11 = activates all LED
´s

Exiting the diagnosis mode: Push „mode“ button or wait for 10 minutes.
