Brian, remember that nothing about this R & R process from the start was easy- quite the opposite. Despite the best intentions of Reace & Co. all customers are at the mercy of the processes within a pretty large multinational corporation. My RV service center was given written instructions with the order of my two-door unit to charge me "the difference in price between the two models"- or $200. When I emailed Mark Wolschlager he replied that he "fixed it", and voila that instruction disappeared.

For any one contemplating a future swap I would suggest a large dose of patience and persistence to achieve what the original bargain was stated to be: (sic) doesn't matter how old the refrigerator is- it can be swapped for the RMD8555 at any time. Customer may have to pay for some re & re". The details distilled down to Dometic paying the first hour and customer for any additional time. From what I see here that is petty much how it is working out. The main problem is this agreement is not memorialized anywhere and seems to need constant overide by Mark. Could be worse.

Took this rookie 8 hrs today to remove, insulate the sides and top, install upper rear gasket, and reinstall the fridge. Would have been worth it to me to pay the $200 extra most of you folks are paying to get the job done right.

Good to know about the Dometic charges. Ours is at the dealer here and ready for install. Hopefully it will be done next week. We will read all of these posts again and be ready with the info. Seems everyone has had a different experience.

Yes, each repair shop operates differently. The only known in this unknown swap is if ETI performs the swap, I believe they do not charge for anything. Something to think about....
I did have the shop perform bearing and brake maintenance, both of which was not needed, gives one a peace of mind until next time.

ETI charged me $225 plus an additional $47.50 to remove insulation that I added. With taxes bill was $286.13. Gas for return trip to Whitecroft, $189.00

I thought insulation was a good thing?

Does anyone know the Dometic set point for the dual fans on the dual door model. I have yet to have mine come on, yet it has been in the 90's the last couple of days. I can turn them on manually, but I have not seen them activated by the factory preset?

I think I'll install one of these in line with the switch http://smile.amazon.com/Bimetal-Temp...HVDB61GVG9J9F6 to operate the fans.

Hello, my 21 is currently at a certified Dometic service shop awaiting a replacement refrigerator.

Question: Will the replacement fridge fit through the door or must a window be removed to get it in?

It will just fit through the door.

Cheers

The windows aren't big enough. Casita and some others made one of their windows larger so this could be done, since their fridge is wider, and won't fit through the door. In the Escapes, the door is the only option.

I still can not get my fans to come on automatically, I measured and the location reads 115 degrees on the tube. They are on manual right now.

Since you can see your switch look at it and there should be some numbers on it that will tell you what temp it will cut in at and a -number that will be the differential where it cuts out. Then measure the temperature of the tube it is mounted on and see if its close.

My switch I installed, it is a toggle and it bypasses the thermostat on the lower tube, see my pictures here http://www.escapeforum.org/forums/f3...ts-5501-7.html

Hi Jim

Just walked past my trailer and I heard the outside fridge fan running, I only turned the fridge on a little over an hour ago. Ran and grabbed my laser thermometer and checked the temperature at the switch and it was 102.5F.

Cheers
