RML8555 Replacement by Dometic

Friday, I got the email from ETI to proceed with my replacement.

Today I talked to both Dometic (Al McGuire - 800-544-4881) and ETI (Chrystal.) It sounds like Dometic has not yet entered the data from ETI in the serial number database, so the service folks can do nothing.

ETI will work with Dometic and email us again when we should contract Dometic.

Good to know. I received a similar response from Dometic this morning as well.

That was my experience to plus further frustrated by the fact that no one my local service center talk to from Dometic even heard of a recall for this refrigerator.

I'm under the impression this is not a "recall" in the normal NHTSA recall on cars or prior refer fire recall units, but more of a concession from Dometic to appease Escape and those with issues. I doubt there is a numbered recall, perhaps a tech advice or some other memo will be disseminated.

Jim,
Yes I agree that this is probably not a normal recall for a product. But it's just funny how in big business that left hand doesn't know what the right hand doing.

There seems to be a bit more work involved on Dometics' side to get things ironed out. Jim is correct, this is not a recall on the fridges, rather a goodwill move for their customer. The right hand needs a couple more days to talk things out with the left hand.

Will provide more information shortly.

Has anyone heard a 'deadline' to accept this swap 'offer'?

Are 'we' convinced that it work significantly better on propane with no air conditioning (boondocking)?

We are debating if I should get our name on the replacement list now or if we can wait and see how other folks like it, and the overall cost of swapping.

I think that's a good approach Klem. Find out what the total cost is to swap it out. I can tell you that we boondocked in warm weather with no AC and the fridge performed well: 37F to 38F on a setting of 4 out of 5. AC didnt seem to make any difference, but outside ambient temps did.

Absolutely get your name on the list for an replacement refrigerator . You can always say no if things get too expensive and I got a feeling we still have a lot of time before any of this going to take place .

I agree, I specifically asked Tammy about not submitting my name until the end of this hot season so I can give it a good test. She said she will still gather the info but that she was not aware of any time frame or limit.
