Hi: Jim Bennett...Here's a couple pic's. of the parts I used. Nice thing is the dreaded black two pronger won't slide down the tube. The end cap, when screwed on, holds it in the neck of the fitting. On the road trials will be this weekend. Alf

Alf - what size/schedule pipe is that? I like that a "normal" slinky connector fits into the threaded end but not past it.

Re: Sewer hose container

That is going to prove very useful. I have a length of string trimmer line under the clamp that holds the "2 pronger". That way if it creeps to the end of the tube, I can still grab it and pull it out.

I know some say that hooked pull rod we get is for the awning. I can reach the awing. It gets used to pull out the slinky.

I just bought a black manufactured holder. I plan to mount it under, and get rid of the one on the bumper.

Hi: Eric T... Standard 4" PVC Sewer pipe. I found a second style female adapter SDR35 BDS... TSC Stores stock# 312404 that fits over the outside dia. of the pipe. It has a ridge about 1" into the fitting that the Valtera 2 pronger won't pass thru and the origional screw on cap fits over the prongs to hold it secure. The old pipe required a sleeve over the pipe to fit the adapter in, but the one I bought doesn't. Alf p.s. The pic of the parts shows the black 2 pronger inside the female end fitting.

Hi: Jim Bennett... The parts were $37.00 inc Tx. and I have enough pipe to make several more. The weekend was priceless!!! Alf

Re: Sewer hose container

Hi: All... I can now say that the new 4" sewer pipe hose container that I made works just as good as the original. The fact that the slinky can't slide in past the female end fitting is really a bonus. Alf

Re: Sewer hose container

We just got back home from picking up our 17b (The Lark) in Chilliwack. We had a great couple of weeks meandering back home from the West Coast. But one of the tabs broke off the sewer hose connection. I was all set to buy a new hose, new container, or make serious modifications, but when we stopped at Camping World, I saw some Blueline Products that look like they can do away with the need for the tabs on the hose. I got one 90 degree elbow that will attach to the trailer sewer out. It has four tabs, so should be sturdy, and is clear so that I can see what is going on. And one "connector" that can be clamped to the hose. It just slides over the smooth connector on the elbow. Here's the relevant links on Camping World's web site:

"Quick Connector"
http://www.campingworld.com/shopping...connector/6834

90 degree elbow (to be carried separately from hose)
http://www.campingworld.com/shopping...-adapter/27855

It seemed easier than getting a new hose and container, and if it doesn't work, I am only out about $14.00.

Does anyone have any experience with Blueline products?

Thanks much. Pictures of The Lark to come as soon as I get it cleaned up.

And, I have to ask, why would you want to see?

If you lightly touch the hose you can feel the vibration of liquid moving through the hose. When it stops, you are done.

I just got back from my sister's place on Shuswap Lake. Toad had a pad to sit on with water, power and sewer. I took advantage and used my wand to clean the black and the grey tanks. The monitor reads empty for black, grey and fresh and the battery is 100 per cent. I'm a happy camper.

Re: Sewer hose container

Alf, I hear you about how fast one can move -- even when I was a lot faster, I probably couldn't move quickly enough to get out of the way. So I will give this a try with clear water first and see whether it inspires confidence. I think the major problem might be getting the #$%&^ pieces apart. It seems to take a lot of twisting, and I haven't even tried it for real yet.

Baglo, the reason why I want to see what is going on is that the black water tank appears to drain fairly quickly, but the grey water tank seems to take forever and a day. My understanding is that it is best to do the black tank first, and then use the soapy water in the grey water tank to (more or less) rinse the hose. When I unhooked the sewer hose before, I was amazed at how much flow was coming still coming even though all the sound and vibration had stopped. I am not sure how long I would have to wait to have the grey tank be completely empty, or at least for the flow to stop.

I suppose one alternative would be to get a Rhino hose. There is a small business that specializes in mods to Casita trailers, and they sell a 45 degree angle Rhino hose attachment that is translucent. That way you can sort of see what is going on, without getting "too much information".

As soon as the hose connector broke, I went poking around on Camping World to see if I could find a sewer hose that had many happy owners. I was hoping to find something that I could purchase and forget about for a while. But all the products seemed to have several comments from users who thought the hose was too flimsy and had developed leaks early in its life, or had some break at the connectors.

Hope this makes sense...

Re: Sewer hose container

Hi: LeonW..."If you got 'em use 'em" When I position the trailer at the dump stn. I put a slab of 2X or a few "Lego" blocks under the other side wheel and drive up on them. It helps the grey flo as that tank is flat and the drain doesn't slope like the black. Our flo is slo too!!! Alf

You are correct. Black first and grey to rinse.
But, I do find that I can just lightly touch the hose on the bottom side and feel if it's still draining. It does take longer than the black, and even when you think it's finished a few ounces will drain.

When you feel little or no vibration, close the valve, wait a couple seconds and detach. At most a few ounces from between the valve an the outlet will be released.

I'm still using the slinky that came with my Escape in 2008. I had to replace the end piece, but that's because I tossed it carelessly down on some concrete.
