There's a hoop in the sewer tube for a padlock. I wouldn't buy a big heavy one, the tube is plastic and the hoop isn't heavy-duty. I have a tiny brass lock for the tow bar for my Scamp, that would work and slow someone down. It wouldn't be hard to bust open the tube door however.

Yes, I was following my son one time and his got loose with about two feet hanging out before I could pass him and get him to pull over.

And I thought those new ones were going to be such an improvement! Maybe we have to make a Velcro attachment for it.

A cotter pin would work well for just keeping it closed. AND, it could be added to your leaving checklist to make certain you don't run into the some problem as Karen's son.

The sewer hose tube cover is pretty cheesy, and easily broken. Several forum members have either replaced the tube or retrofitted it with a screw on cap with a retaining chain. I haven't bothered, but the latch on mine is still good.

Most Escapes have screw-on caps and I would have thought they changed to this because it is better.

Good idea, Pat. We can use an S-clip.

Mines only a year old, no screw on cap. When did they change to screw on?

It is the older ones that are screw-on.

The covers on the ends of the storage tube were latched; the thief graciously closed and latched the cover again after removing the slinky. To make it worse (for him) at my previous stop I didn't have a hose to rinse out the slinky, so it was even nastier than usual. It was only "rinsed out" by the discharge from the gray water tank.

The screw on caps have similar issues as the new cover. They are very easy to leave behind or sitting on the rear bumper.

I might buy a length of PVC or other kind of plastic tubing just long enough to hold the new slinky when collapsed, then store that in the ever-handy front storage box, which I keep locked. Then put the nastiest-looking rubber snake I can find in the existing slinky storage tube. I *hate* thieves.

Me too. Maybe you could rig one of these inside REPULSAR I to go off when the door is opened.

This is the first I have ever heard of such a thing. It must be a one in a million chance type occurrence. That has to be a new low. I certainly would never consider locking my tube. I couldn't without modification anyway.

Thanks Cathy I thought of this because I had heard door opening up and you losing your hose going down the road . The other I had to make because the one from Escape could not hold much hose , so I can add another hose if needed I added tube with screw on cap . Pat

Thieves are already the lowest of the low. A thief stealing a sewer hose seems appropriate somehow. It's dirty, slimy and stinks, just like them.

Many years in law enforcement taught me at least one thing for sure - never underestimate the depravity of a criminal.

Yes, the older ones had a screw one cap and were also smaller, you had to cut your sewer attachment tabs to make items fit, the newer is bigger and a lot nicer, I use those tiny padlocks for the front box and the sewer hose container

I am not going to go to the trouble of locking up my sewer hose. If some unfortunate soul is desperate enough to steal mine, they probably need it more than I do. I will continue to latch mine with no locks used, and will have easy access to it when needed. There is probably only one person in the whole world who would steal a sewer hose anyways, and he has one now, so mine should be safe.
