An OEM system is much better integrated with the vehicle, and so it is much more desirable. I used the OEM remote start feature in a Dodge Charger which I rented - it worked well.

My wife's car is an '08 Honda Accord. Not likely to get OEM. Besides, I had an aftermarket one in a vehicle, abbr know if others too, that operated great. The key is to not buy junk, and get someone who knows the product to install.

The only thing I did not like was the security alarm that came with it. It got disabled as it was a pain in the butt. If I used the remote start, and did not use the door lock feature with it to unlock when entering, instead using the car's fob, off went the alarm.

undergoing emergency repairs along a roadside, is an armoured vehicle, is participating in a parade

never had a vehicle with remote start nor lived in a place that needed to Preheat the vehicle's engine..bought a new truck and it had remote start on the Fob...sometimes forget if the truck is locked when going to the store so I sometimes press the Fob to lock it for sure...more than a few times have started the truck to my surprise!...wish for a fob without remote start or a way to disable it in the vehicle computer setup menu.

Aren't you the lucky one.

Even here in the land of Lululemon, where folks spend most of the year biking and kayaking and doing all the other good stuff in our mild climate we sometimes get a couple of weeks of Winter, like now I'd love to have that fob. I'd be able to start the engine and have the windshield defrost instead of having to chisel off rine and clear ice. Of course that's after I take the heat gun and thaw the lock to get in.

No way 3 minutes wild work here .even with first scraping a windshield, it can take a few more minutes to clear.

With Ford you have to push the lock button one, then the start button twice for a remote start. No chance to start it by accident.

Doesn't work here either. But, like other bylaws, it's not a problem if you get along with your neighbours.

That's why Edmonton's anti-idling bylaw (which doesn't apply in your driveway anyway) only applies at temperatures above freezing; it also allows 5 minutes per half hour. At this point the target is not people warming up their cars, it's people who don't turn off when waiting at the curb or in a parking lot (specifically at schools and hospitals in Edmonton). I suppose the possibility of freezing weather didn't occur to the North Vancouver people.

Hey! A bylaw that makes sense, nice!

Vancouver? I thought Anchorage was Lululemon land. I bike to work daily on the ski trails and always get a chuckle when I see the Lululemon gals. Scott

Wifey had a similar issue with the panic button on her key fob. I just opened up the key fob and removed the contacts under the panic button with a pair on needle-nose pliers, then reassembled. No more problem.

I might look into that. My panic alarm is always thing off. That, and the stupid tailgate release button. The handle and shroud surrounding it are now scared up from it accidentally releasing, and riding on my cargo trailer hitch a couple times while under way. I cannot figure for the life of me what use that feature is.
