Stinky Slinker Holder Tube
As we were returning from a wonderfully peaceful 2-day outing in SittEscape, a car pulled next to me and the driver did one of those "pointing motions," indicating something wrong with the trailer. Oh, oh, I thought. Dozens of disasters zipped through my mind to the "what could it be?" question. We were just a mile from the exit and, for a brief moment, thought maybe we should wait for a safer place to stop. On the other hand, maybe it was too serious. So, we pulled over with some trepidation.
Upon inspection, we found the PVC sewer hose storage holder dragging along the roadway, dangling from just the curbside mounting. Removal was no problem, a simple loosening one of the screws on the remaining mounting. I patted myself on the back for having a square drive screwdriver inside SittEscape. After a sigh of relief, we were back on the road within 5 min. Fortunately, the damage was minimal, scraping just a small amount of the outer edge plastic. [See pic] The pipe must not have been dragging very long.
When home, I took a closer look at the mountings. The scalloped black-painted wood mountings, to which the sewer hose pipe is attached via plumber's strap, are themselves attached to the underside frame with 1 inch square-head screws. Problem is that the screws penetrate the frame by only a quarter inch, maybe less, even though they are counter sunk into the wood mounting.
The next day, I set about to making the mountings more secure. I repurposed a couple of dust collection hose clamps from my shop. Rather than merely rely on screws, I drilled and tapped bolt holes and used lock washers to mount the hose clamps to the frame. Probably an over-the-top fix but I've already experienced the downside.
Testing the tightness of the sewer hose holder would never have been part of my regular routine. And I'm not sure I would have caught this by simply wiggling the hose holder. But, I'd suggest we all periodically check out the Stinky Slinky holder mountings. Here are a couple of pics.
