I've carried a spare pump ever since I had a failure on the road. I was lucky and only a few miles from an RV shop/store in Oregon. They're pretty easy to install. Also carry a couple feet of tubing and hose clamps.

I wouldn't worry about carrying a spare pump, myself. We usually have a big jug of water to service all our cooking outside anyway. I would miss the instant hot water though. One could always drain water out of the holding tank to use in an emergency too.
