Water pump noisy

Hi folks,

Question about the water pump in my Escape 15. It is pumping water fine but it is really noisy. It used to run fairly quietly, but know is chattery. I know this is not much info to go on. Does a clunky, chattery water pump indicate that it is going out?

Thanks.

The intake side of the pump has a screen filter, if this filter gets dirty the pump has to work harder and makes more noise, you can remove it and wash it out to clean. Also check you aerator screens in your faucets, same with these, if they get dirty.
Also check the mount bolts (screws), they should be snug but not tight, you don't want the rubber isolation grommets compressed.

Ours started sounding louder than usual after a bumpy road. Turns out a tote had shifted and was pushing on it a little. Moved tote, noise stopped.

Hopefully your solution is as simple as that.

Whatever is making it noisier, if the output is connected directly to PEX (stiff plastic) piping, that's carrying the noise into the rest of the trailer. This type of water pump should have flexible hose on both intake and output for vibration isolation.

water pump

Ours became noisy before it quit, a new pump fixed it.

Thanks all for your replies. I will check to see if filters are dirty. Sounds like it might be a good idea to carry a spare at this point. Thanks again.

The filter on mine is wire, like a house screen.

Best to keep the faucet aerator clear of debris. The water pump works much like a gas pump. When it senses back pressure, it shuts down. Debris will cause back pressure.

I've carried a spare pump ever since I had a failure on the road. I was lucky and only a few miles from an RV shop/store in Oregon. They're pretty easy to install. Also carry a couple feet of tubing and hose clamps.

I wouldn't worry about carrying a spare pump, myself. We usually have a big jug of water to service all our cooking outside anyway. I would miss the instant hot water though. One could always drain water out of the holding tank to use in an emergency too.
