I myself went back and forth on the removable cord

But after a recent ant invasion at our home

And also the ability to somehow make a short 30 amp cord (with standard household plug) that can plug into the outdoor extension cord

That changed my mind.

Plus it frees up a bit of storage in the bench of a 21'

So that is cool

Lots of others have chimed in on this one here is what I like about having a detachable cord:

.) ability to store cord in the forward storage areas.
.) ability to easily connect adapters for House Current

I don't understand this statement. I have an 15/30 adapter for my power cord and plug into a regular extension cord at home. Either way you need a $6 adapter to do that.

Two reasons I like the removable power cord.

The dusty, dirty or wet cord doesn't go into the trailer.
Everything to do with the outside of the trailer stays outside either in the storage box or truck bed. Items inside the trailer are for things like the inside of the house.

Using the same logic we didn't get the little access door cut into the side of the trailer. Of course we have a truck bed for lots of "outside" storage items - lawn chairs barbecue ect ect. The front storage box is a highly valued option.

I agree. I'll do a lot of camping in sites with no hookups so the cord can either stay home or get tightly wrapped and put into a box in a little used area of the trailer or truck.

I use this all the time when parked at home, or one just like it. Takes up little room so it goes with us on trips, in the unlikely event the original cord takes a hike.

One of the reasons members say that they chose the detachable cord is that the so-called "mouse hole" through which the non-detachable cord is pulled out of and pushed back into the trailer can be a conduit for pests. That is really not a valid concern because it can be readily addressed. All one has to do is to stuff something around the cord in the mouse hole when the cord is in use. Think "paper or plastic?" unless you exist in California where plastic has been outlawed, I believe. There teally are a million uses for those plastic bags. I had a non-detachable cord on my previous trailer. I didn't like it because it was in the same compartment as the converter and would often get wrapped around the converter when pushed back in, creating a "hung up" problem the next time I wanted to extract it. I solved the problem by cutting a wastebasket to fit when lying on its side, and wedged it in place so that it would "contain" the cord when it was pushed back in. Many pros and cons have been made in this thread but most of them have any serious (and I do mean serious) validity to the point that any of them would be what we commonly call a "deal breaker." It really comes down to preference. I went with a detachable cord on my 5.0TA because it was slightly inconvenient (for me) to find and stuff a plastic bag around the mouse hole to seal it everyte it was in use.

I think that I have seen this same response before on other threads.

Makes me think that a more prominent placement and promotion of the site's "SEARCH" function and its use could be of value ... ?

Sometimes when I do a search, I get results that are, shall I say, off topic.

I agree. If you search by thread the thing you are searching for may be in a thread that seemingly has nothing to do with your search and you have to wade through a lot of unrelated postings. Threads tend to wander sometimes. But if you search by posting you will often get way too many hits to be useful. Sometimes it's just easier to ask the question again in a new thread.

I've learned a lot from this forum and don't mind helping others with questions I have asked myself.

Another factor is that things evolve. There is a current thread about fridge sizes in the 17'. No point in searching 17' fridges because they are different sizes, different models over the years.

Very good idea. Where it is now is not as prominent as it could be IMHO.

What conversion kit did you use? I am thinking of doing this because the cord cover on our trailer is broken. It will also make room for an accumulator and some other gadgets!

This one. Uses the existing power cord for the conversion:

Thanks! It looks like it will fit into the existing square hole on the trailer.

I will have to order and pick-up from the US because Amazon.ca wants $260 for it!

I store my 17' in a secure storage location, I was still worried about someone pulling out the cord, cutting it off, it's a lot of copper ?

Worried about theft

There's not much you can do to stop a determined thief. You can't worry about it. If they can't take your cord there's tires, batteries, propane tank and copper, etc etc etc. Secure storage is a relative term, don't let the possibilities rule your life. Remember the Garrison Kielor routines with the fear mongers? A lot of those jokes have now become reality.

Thanks for this information Robert . I will tell the truth now and am thinking of changing out the cord . On this last trip I had to crawl under bed and remove the divider , after removing everything under bed. . The cord was ,because of the cold in a knot and wouldn't pull out . Needless to say wasn't happy . On previous RV's would not have that problem because opening was bigger , with cord in a a container . Pat
