Yes, that was the best (least) traffic I've ever seen in LA.

Here's a pretty nifty article. And start making plans for the one in 2024!

If you have your 007 glasses, can you look at the eclipse with binoculars?

Terry says it's not a good idea because it could hurt the binoculars. Same thing with camera lenses. The elements in the eyepiece could become decemented.

Actually, I looked at the NASA site this am about the eclipse. They say not to look through telescopes, binoculars, or even telephoto lenses, even with the eclipse glasses. There are filters you can use, but not without.

But thanks for the reply.

You need a solar filter in *front* of any device (camera, telescope, binoculars, eyes, etc) that will look at the Sun during a partial eclipse. You don't need any filters during totality. If fact, use only your eyes during totality for the best view!

The most amazing thing is the weather forecast in the PNW. Basically, Clear!

The white spot near the So.Calif. coast is right behind us today (go figure). Hopefully, it'll stay in uninhabited areas.

Currently at WindRidge Winery just to the NW of Lincoln Ne. The cloud cover looks reasonable. Not great but ok. We may go south a bit to get more totality. Or we may just stay here, drink wine, and engage in pagan rituals (drinking more wine to encourage the sun to return). This is a great find for us via Harvest Hosts. The rumour is that some guy near Beatrice, NE is charging $2800 to park in his pasture tonight

Hi Leon
Well we are camped in SW Iowa in about as nice a state park as you'd find anywhere with electricity, tile showerhouse, congenial host who is also a squirrel hunter,. for $20 a night. We are about 75 miles north of totality and will head that way on county blacktops in the morning. The. Cicadas are singing, sky is 3/4.clear at this time and the blue moon is not in the sky but in the cooler on ice. See you on the big river. We like the new to us 21 very much and the Highlander brought her back from Chilliwack in good shape.

Nah, that Mall Crawler could never get over those passes towing a 21

I hope everyone who has gotten themselves into eclipse viewing locales has clear skies and a full view tomorrow.

I'll be in the dentist chair looking up at the ceiling where they have a TV. Odds are it will be showing cartoons.

Hi Leon- hope you get a good view; the person spreading that rumor has probably begged in a lot more pagan rituals than you!!

In Lander, WY - very sane even though we've seen a steady influx the last two days. Cops are liking writing more tickets, however there is plenty of gas, and Safe way has anything you need.

Madras Oregon - Solarfest/Solartown

Clear skies and less than 10% cloud cover predicted here. NASA is here doing some presentations focused towards kids. About 6000 campers spread over 5 large campgrounds; I found one Escape (19) in the trailer/RV section. MANY rental RVs from both California and Canada.

I'm in Glendo, Wyoming about 3 miles from the center line of the totality. I was at a Walmart in Casper earlier today but decided to get closer to Colorado for the big rush home. Lots of people sleeping in cars and SUVs. The night is cool and a clear sky with little or no haze from the fires in Montana.

Charlie, National news (NBC) just showed the ocean of tents outside Madras, OR. Refreshing to see that so many people still have and use tents! I looked for you and your bright white fiberglass trailer somewhere in the masses, but to no avail. Be safe, have fun! On another note, I wonder how many people are going to purchase PowerBall lottery tickets during totality hoping it will bring some extra mojo luck. Hhmmm, not a bad idea....

Drove down from Edmonton, AB to Casper, WY on the weekend (Friday and Saturday). Casper is in the totality zone. Skies were really clear (they didn't have the smoke that we saw throughout Montana) and they were expecting decent skies for today (Monday). Not much for crowds on Saturday evening. Had to work today (Monday) so I drove back to Edmonton on Saturday night and Sunday. 3250km driven in 3 days!

Sounds like a lot of people in the mid-west detoured through Colorado on their way north to view the total eclipse. The assumption is they swung through to pick up some "herbal refreshments" to enjoy during the event. Bonnaroo without the music!

Dave, which state park are you at? We will probably go to the Homestead Natonal Historic site tomorrow and then start wending our way home. A good state park would be nice. How long are you hanging around?
