You can borrow mine, if you like.

Nice of you to offer yours Glen. I also have two pair of older ones that do not have much range but they work. I will bring a pair along.
Good timing on your question, I just packed my good pair. If you are just travelling with one other vehicle then using a phone to give a head`s up works just fine. Well, in areas that have good cell phone coverage, but that wouldn`t include a lot of Baja. But if you`re travelling with several other vehicles then it`s nice to be able to stay in touch and hear messages that apply to the group.
Also just looked at the I-5 weather forecasts for Fri. and Sat. looks good so I guess that I`m safe putting some water in the tank.

I think mine are Uniden radios with considerable range. They are just hanging out in the trailer, and the trailer is going nowhere.

Ron, yes I see the weather looks good although I have to say that the Siskiyou looks a tad dicey early next week. So I wouldn’t want to leave it.

Going great, a couple nights on the road from Calgary, then near a week at Valley of Fire near Las Vegas, then 3 nights at the Circus Circus campground on the strip, then a week at Joshua Tree NP. Stopped at Qsite Saturday night, now 3 nights here in Yuma ending tomorrow morning, then maybe onto Imperial dam for a few days before ending up at Dome Rock on Sunday or Monday. The four of us are still very much looking forward to heading to the Baja for however long it suits our fancy. We do plan to be home by late March.
Between a lack of connectivity and being busy with other stuff, I have not been keeping up here very well at all. Tonight is the first time I have been on my laptop, the few other posts I have made have been on my phone.

That looks like the road we live on! And why we have the high lift axle.

Thanks for the update! The roads were our biggest concern about the trip. The good news about slow going roads like that is you don’t have to worry about high speed oncoming traffic and no shoulders right? There’s got to be a bright side to it all!
Loved seeing the pics of the convoy. I’m sure you’ll all have such a great time once you can settle in there and enjoy!

I thought about this trip, but we couldn't go. Now that I seen Jim's highway 5 road conditions (YO--Mamma!) I don't feel so bad about that.
We got this close to Mexico, at the Algodones border crossing. Chose not to drive through because it just looked too ugly. That night I heard about the 3 hour long wait foot traffic people had to endure on the return back to US. What a bummer!
Still want to pat a whale shark's nose in the Sea of Cortez, though. Well, there's always next year.

That's Hwy 5? Wow, I thought the Philippine roads were bad!

We don't have the high lift and though the road shipped and had lots of big bumps it really wasn't an issue.

Our moulded fibreglass trailers championed the conditions. As mentored it was a great experience despite the conditions.

Methinks this ride might have been a bit tough on your dear wife's back.

Yup, 5 Escapes on Coyote Beach, despite the bad road. We'll all be taking Mex. 1 back though.
Myron, patting whale sharks on the nose is frowned upon. Grey whales not so much.

Ron if you don't send us a picture of a dolphin, or a grey whale down there being petted on the nose, from a kayak or not, I will have no choice but must insist upon wanting to see one of you on Coyote beach eating one of them great Mexican fish tacos.
